I need this bird!
aaahhh, the days when you could smoke anywhere and everywhere... including mission control. I don't know that life has gotten better since then.Watching Apollo 13: Survival on Netflix. Great actual footage.
Quite a few pipes in the crowd shots while we were waiting for the reentry radio blackout to end.
A couple of the Houston Mission Controllers:
Nice saddle stemmed bulldog (didn’t see any shots of the obverse/markings):

I'll be amazed if anyone remembers this mini-series from the mid '70s, The Oregon Trail...but this character was a pipe smoker...don't recall if there were any others.
Bonus points if anyone can guess who the funny looking kid in the back left is.

Robert Young of Father Knows Best and Marcus Welby M.D.Crossfire from 1947. The detective character always has his pipe with him, never have seen a movie where the pipe was so prominent.View attachment 376347
it has and also it's gotten worse too. Seems to be the way life works. Seriously only partially joking. In some ways we're super lucky to be alive now and in others not so lucky. The thing is we might disagree on what those particular things are.aaahhh, the days when you could smoke anywhere and everywhere... including mission control. Tangential, but I have a friend who works in vintage clothing and has provided pieces for Outlander, etc. Same kind of thing there -- duplicate or triplicate items, references for patterns to ensure accuracy, even the stitching. She eventually gave it up because it was a lot more strenuous than vintage sales. But it's a trip to watch something with her and listen to her identify everything.I worked on the upcoming Oppenheimer movie (or did it come out) spent a lot of time identifying his pipes, locating vintage models, getting multiples of those and staining, stressing them to be alike. Findin triplicates of each, etc.
Unfortunately, I had to back out due to family health issues at the time but I’ll say the prop department and prop master I dealt with only was very serious about pipe accuracy and there are plenty in this movie. I’m bummed I didn’t get to complete it and not sure who is now but it’ll be a great pipe spotting movie to watch.![]()
Mind how you go ...Endeavor (PBS or Britbox, in its final season) has a character who seems to know how to smoke a pipe (Inspector Thursday) A few other characters smoke as well.
