Been watching "Maigret" , a somewhat tame British show (circa 1960) about a French police inspector . Many won't find it thrilling (he's not exactly Clint Eastwood in "Dead Pool") but he is smoking a pipe in at least half the scenes .

I also like the more recent version of Maigret starring Rowan Atkinson. Plenty of pipe smoking scenes in it.

The new "Nosferatu" film has several pipe smoking scenes in it. William Defoe's character, Von Franz if my memory serves, in particular smokes a big ass pipe in most of the scenes he is in. His nervous and excited puffing on his cumbersome pipe adds to his eccentricity and provides the film's few bits of light-hearted comic relief. I'd post a picture, but I don't have one.

If anyone here likes old-school gothic horror that is languidly paced and aesthetically rich, then go watch "Nosferatu." It's a winner!

Recently watched Join Or Die, an excellent documentary on Netflix based on the book Bowling Alone by Harvard political scientist Robert Putnam. Putnam smokes a pipe in several scenes throughout as well as in many photos shown. The film and book both focus on the decline of social groups in America, everything from fraternal orders, unions, religious congregations, and all manners of clubs and the stated mission of the film was to inspire viewers to join a club. No idea what kind of pipe smoker Putnam is but even if he's codgerly I'm sure he'd be very pleased to learn about the development of pipe clubs if he hasn't already.

The new Netflix Series, American Primeval features a pipe smoking Jim Bridger and one of the US Cavalry Captains is also smoking a pipe. I have only just started the series. I also welcome anyone to read the Jerry Enzler biography of Jim Bridger. I rather enjoyed it. He has appeared in several stories, usually as an ancillary character such as the young kid in The Revenant. They only mention his name once in the film.

I heard American Primeval is really good. Bridger is a very interesting figure and I've also noticed he's almost always a minor or at least secondary figure in pop culture

The Murder She Wrote episode " I, J.B. as in Jailbird" is an entertaining episode involving the hunt for a mystery political assassin nicknamed the Cobra. John Rhys Davies plays the head of a section of British intelligence exiled to San Francisco ... he smokes numerous pipes in this episode which he lights with a Dunhill lighter and has a large canister of Granger on his desk; its worth watching. Unfortunately I cannot identify all the pipes, one looks like a Peterson Supreme Bulldog with a gold band and saddle stem. Another looks like a Dunhill shell briar. If anyone cares to watch it and can identify the pipes please tell us. Its well acted even if the dialogue is a bit over the top.
