Holidays in the two countries (US and UK) sometimes can be alittle weird, at least a few of them. After staying in countries that didn't have Halloween and coming back to the US, Halloween felt weird. Walpurgis Night in Sweden felt weird when I stayed there. Guy Fawkes Night in the UK feels like a nationally orchestrated intolerant lynch mob, with statues of the Pope and sometimes other political figures getting burned. It's ironic because a UK Parliament page I found a few years ago said that there's a theory that the real Guy Fawkes gunpowder plot might have been really an inside job by anti-Catholic forces.

But, Robin Hood is American, as long as you don't vest too much into the Robinhood character. Then, it's about a commie who almost gets away with it, till the venture capitalist returns home to set things right. puffy
Marmalade is lovely stuff. I've just ordered 4 jars of Duerr's fine cut seville orange marmalade and I already had 2 jars left. For me you can't beat it for breakfast. Buttered toast topped with marmalade. The only trouble is, no matter how hard I try I always end up with sticky fingers. I manage to get it all over my computer keyboard and mouse.

I much prefer the thick cut but yes, Duerr's make a grand marmalade.

Some years ago I used to by a huge tin of Seville orange concentrate and make about 8 jars of the stuff at a time, not seen it in years mind.

The beauty of that was you would add your own amount of sugar and I always added less than required as I don't like it too sweet. You could also add some fresh ginger for that extra kick. I wonder what Paddington Bear would make of that!

Jay.

I agree Duerr's thick cut marmalade is better but with more peel I get through it far too quickly. I do like a decent amount on my toast.

I'm not a connoisseur but I like trying the different varieties you can get. Three fruit marmalade was one of my favourites but I can't have anything with grapefruit anymore. Like you I don't like it too sweet it's got to be a bit tangy. Anything home made is usually nicer.

Did you ever try whisky flavoured marmalade? It's lovely.

I'm normally quite conservative about marmalade. Until last year, we had a greengrocer here who we bought all the fruit and veg. from that we don't grow ourselves, and he used to make his own coarse cut seville orange marmalade in his own jars, which we would take back for refills. It was wonderful - but he retired, and now we have to make do with supermarket second best.

But having said that, my taste for Japanese cuisine has led me to explore their native citrus fruit, yuzu - and yuzu marmalade: has anyone else here tried it?

I used to have a friend now long passed who made marmalade how I liked it. Now it's just supermarket stuff.

Here it used to be traditional to make marmalade when the seville oranges became readily available. Along with pickling onions and making Christmas puddings, and Christmas cakes.

No I've never tasted yuzu marmalade. It sounds as though it should be delicious.
