the question is how do you feel about it? If you feel like it diminishes the pipe ask for a replacement. Me I kind of like things like that. Has some personality. Plus it's not part of the pipe that is going to be looked at much.
In theory, if you are left handed it should make the pipe more comfortable to hold
It looks like cast on/off on a shotgun. So I guess it all depends on whether you’re using your left or right hand. And lead it smoothly!

Every single bent Pete I own has a wonky angle or two.. I've always just attributed it more or less to their intrinsically phallic house-style, and/or what time the ol' Green Spot started going 'round.
Out of all my Peterson, I have plenty of crooked stem. But haven't seen stummel like that. Some small fills here and there. One pipe with uneven top. I guess I could call that character like a person born with nose pointing left, not that there's anything wrong with person like that. I guess his parents can blame it on OB/GYN.
That's kind of funny. If the pipe smokes well and is otherwise satisfactory, that would be something I'd almost certainly just chalk up as an idiosyncracy of the pipe and would continue to enjoy smoking it.
Not normal but it probably wouldn't bother me. If the pipe smokes fine then it definitely wouldn't bother me.
I'd just put it down to 'character'; after all there are lots of dead straight pipes; now one with a little kink is bit more interesting.
Is that on them being not so great? It turns out there is a bit of roughness in the shank where the stem goes in...kind of gets stuck sometimes (yes pipe is cold)
Peterson is a fine brand. I only smoke Peterson. They smoke well, and looks great. But, on occasions, they make mistakes. This leads to some tarnished reputation, and smokers who swear against Peterson. Bottom line is how you like your pipe. Like I said, slight cosmetic issues, I don't mind. Big ones, I'll take up with vendor or the company.
There are Pete bashers here, two known constant Dunhill dissers, etc. etc. There are also plenty of Peterson affiiciandos and Dunhill lovers. I am neither, but like all 7-8 of my Petes.
A touch of beeswax may help with the tenon-mortise operation, whether loose or tight. (Lubrication on one, stickiness on the other.)

I take some fine steel wool and polish the tenons on tough fits until they glide like Teflon.
