Looking forward to it! I passed on the last two copper releases (2021 and 2022) and have sorely regretted it. I think I like the black stems of the 2022s better than these but will enjoy these regardless.

Nice pipes just not very Christmassy. I've got a Pete in the XL02 shape and i've been on the lookout for another. Probably a bit more than I can afford to spend at the moment, though. I've got about £150 I can spare but that's earmarked for more tobacco for the cellar. I can't afford both so i'll go with the tobacco. I've never regretted doing that in the past but it is tempting when you see shapes and finishes you like.

Very nice selection.

The smooths look nice to me. I don't know why, but I have yet to see a Peterson rusticated that appeals to me. If I recall correctly, this particular type of rustication is new to the Peterson factory since the acquisition from Laudisi.
Do others like the rustication? If so, are you able to explain what it is that draws you to them?

Yeah this rustication was created by Wojciech Blaszcak. I used to really dislike it, almost as much as the "pineapple" rustication. But it grew on me due to its tactile feel and craggy, chiseled wood look. I know others have called it the pinecone or beaver rustication which I think is fair. I do think that the burgundy stain they often use with the rustication does not pair well with it and I prefer the stain on the Aran and Derry rustication. To me they also look a bit like the early Eire rustication, though not as subtle or graceful.

Check out these two articles for more on the history of Peterson rustication.

Although the Christmas pipes are "special", they tend to put out a good supply and IIRC replenish it as well, never had any trouble finding one!
I think that's right while they're selling from now until Christmas. They are a little trickier to come by for sale once they've left the stores. You can track them down at various B&Ms but you'll have to call each one and inquire.

A lot of times when I ask a question, someone thinks I have some sort of nefarious reason behind it, and this might sound like one. But, I really want to know. So... these will come in every color and texture Peterson makes? Except they will have a copper plated spigot? So, the spigot is what will designate them as Christmas pipes.
Not every color and texture but the usual suspects. Supposedly the copper isn't plated but I don't know how to check that on their previous releases. Any yeah, calling them the Christmas pipe is what makes them a Christmas pipe.

Can you say why?
Copper is a reactive metal, with a very small atom. It will not hold a polish without a light coating of varnish that is very easy to remove, even handling it will remove the varnish. It also etches very easily, with even the acids in your skin will leave permanent fingerprints etched on it. Left uncoated, copper will turn dark, to black, to green and foamy looking rather quickly, called verdis gris. This is poisonous. Greeks used copper arrowheads for their lethalness. But, it constantly loosing its polish will have guys constantly polishing it, and the small atoms will come off easily leaving it worn away looking fast.

Add in that copper deforms at room temp… all just a perfect storm for a f’d up band and spig.

If it is a copper colored alloy “bronze”, with a plating, it would be much more durable, but cannot be called “pure (or real) copper” in the EU.
There just is no benefit in making it out of a real copper. We learned this early on when we tried to make the penny out of copper. Now, pennies are a bronze alloy.
