I have 6 or 7 p-lip System pipes and I like them very much. For the most part they are quite small, with fairly small bowl dimensions and a couple that are huge. I use the small ones for high Vit N tobaccos like Peterson Irish Flake or Dunhill NightCap. I find that the small bowl AND the p-lip system seems to make me able to tolerate the nicotene hit better. I really love the flavor but not the effect. I'm not a big fan of the room-whirlies. Great pipes, fishtail or P-lip, you'll probably still get a good smoke out of either!

It's a matter of preference, I myself like p/lip as it rests will between my jaws due to some teeth deformation. It doesn't influnce the smoke habit itself, just reducing tongue bite and increases warming mouth ceiling. P/lips are pretty good also for reducing moisture spill from the stem, but a little bit annoying while cleaning the stem using bristle cleaners. It helps also reducing coloring of the tongue.

Just won a Peterson pipe with a p/lip last night, that's going to be my first, hoping I'll like that system.

I was told the pipe I wanted was in stock and could ship it to the USA. However, after filling out the pertinent info and clicking submit it failed to go through when processed for some reason and I wasn't able to complete the transaction. There was a place that indicated "Valid From" as well as an expiration date. My card only has the latter so I just made up a Valid From date. There was also something about Verisign for Visa that I declined since I hadn't had to deal with setting up a password when making transactions before. I wrote them so, we'll see what they say.

Update-I got a call from my friendly credit union this morning who asked it I tried to order from the UK last night and I told her yes but had no success. The reason why was that they apparently have some countries blocked and this was one of them. They've had problems with fraud from a few countries but she told me she would lift the ban for 48 hours if I wanted to still order. I had success with the order not long ago and looks like I'll be trying out the P-lip Peterson 307 shortly. :D

Glad you figured it out. Another tip colcolt, I am up here in Knoxville and had a little extra time earlier so I decided to hit up some antique stores. Only made it to a couple but both had several pipes. If you want to try and restore an estate pipe, Knoxville seems to have them and they are cheap. I didn't see a Peterson but maybe at some of the others.

Good job and apparently a good bank too that they call you with this kind of stuff.
Yep, Mick they are super. I've had them as my bank since 1974 and wouldn't go elsewhere. You're more like family there and they treat you as such.
herb-Thanks again for putting me on to their website. Now if I can just stay out of trouble by not going there lurking around all will be well.
photoman-I wouldn't have thought the antique stores had pipes at all. I use to haunt the antique dealers back in the mid '80's when I was into restoring old tube radios but never thought of them as carrying pipes. They're use to be a few antique sops on Chapman Highway going toward Sevierville but since they closed the Hensley St bridge I haven't been that way in some time.

I was in north Knoxville some where. I have no idea how to get back there lol. There are a few in the Bearden area as well that I know of off the top of my head. One in Bearden area had a Wally Frank Limited pipe that was gorgeous but it was 18 dollars. That's too much to spend right now. Love looking at all those old pipes though.

There use to be a place on Mohican St or Dr. called Bearden Antique Mall but I haven't been there in years. It may not be there anymore but they use to have a lot of nice things there from old books and furniture to antique radios. I don't know much about North Knoxville. Get me out of the west or northwest side and I get lost.

Congrats Colcolt on the 307! I think you are going to like it. I have a few similar shaped Pete Systems. The majority of my Pete collection are P-lip but I have a few fishtail bits too. I like them both and really can't say I like one over the other. Definately take your time and spend a few bowl fulls to get used to the P-lip.
Cleaning is no big deal because you can pop the stem off right away and run your pipe cleaner up from the tenon end and then pull it through the P-lip.
Welcome to the Pete club and I hope your new System smokes well for you.

I think that is the antique store I went to actually. At the end of the street there is a vinyl record store called Wild Honey Records which is closed every time I go.

I'm sure I will. They sent me an email at 4:40am this morning that it had shipped. They must be about 4 hours ahead of us. I KNOW none is up at that time except me. I was wondering how you would clean the stem due to the difference in placement of the hole in the stem but I guess the cleaner just follows the airway. My first Peterson and I've a feeling not the last. They have some good looking and efficient pipes.

Took some getting used to at first, but I find I actually prefer the P-lip, especially for aromatic tobaccos. I don't know if it's the angle of the smoke or what, but I find that when smoking a P-lip, I can smell the aroma that's usually not experienced by the smoker, but smelled only by others. Especially effective with Peterson's (a coincidence??) Sunset Breeze, which has a distinctive Amaretto aroma. :puffy:

I like it for the break it gives me from the fishtail when I get a little toungue bite from not paying attention. I'm a part time clencher and the way my teeth are shaped I can't keep a p-lip still in my mouth so I don't care for it from that standpoint. I have a few for that break but prefer fishtails.

My Peterson Aran has the P-Lip and I have no problems with it. It was odd at first, but I enjoy it now.

I recently bought a Savinelli with the P-lip and to tell the truth, I like it better than my Peterson with the P-lip. The draw seems better and gurgles less than the Peterson.
