In retrospect, photoman, I'm inclined to agree plus you can get it with the P-lip or fishtail. I decided, what the heck I'll just write them to see if I can get both stems. all they can say is no.
I was lucky with the student load thing. Uncle Sam help pay for part of my education but I paid for it with time away from home and family. that was one of the VA benefits.

I enjoy the p-lip 303 System that I have. I think the System pipes work great in high humidity climates.

There is no way I could join. I have terrible joint problems. It is just rough now because I can't seem to find a decent job right now. In the mean time I have been able to do the occasional construction side job. I'm no charity case and I will get something eventually. Just have to run a tight ship for now.

Hang in there, photoman. Before I landed this job I've had since 1974 I had been going to college and working part time in a print shop. This company made me an offer I couldn't refuse and I moved from NC to TN and never left. It's had it's ups and downs. In 1990 we were all laid off after being there 16 years and I was out of work a year or so. I started working as maintenance man at Watson's department store doing everything from cleaning the rest room and buffing the floors to doing electrical work and replacing a/c filters. It wasn't a pretty job and paid little but you do what yo have to do. Finally I got on with a contract organization and got back to work for the same company doing basically the same ting as before but no benefits...no vacation, no paid medical, no holidays. You just keep going and doing what you can. Lots of crap down the road so be prepared but don't give up or give in.
End of sermon. :)

Thanks Colcolt, I appreciate it. I'm still hopeful and excited to be making money instead of giving money. One day when everything is settled down we will have to meet up at Smokys or something and smoke a bowl together.
Oh and Herbinedave knows his stuff. He is probably right but it does cost a lot more so take that into consideration.

+1 on the 307. I have an 07 Aran and it has a fairly huge bowl. I'm looking at a 307 to be the "Papa Pete System" and compliment the "Baby Pete System" 317 ( smallest bowl they make I think ) I already have.

Sounds fine to me. The 307 is only about $15 bucks more and advice given is well taken. The 307 is a bit longer and the bowl is deeper which both is a plus to me. I like one with a bowl depth of 1.5" or more but that in itself is not a deal breaker.

I have both, I think I like the fishtail better though the p lip is cool and different. My favorite pipe is a p lip but it's not because it's a p lip it's because it's a tankard.

I have one P lip in the collection and don't care for it. I clench some, hold some but having the smoke hit where it does feels very weird to me. I gave my Peterson to a buddy and he doesn't seem to mind it.

I got an answer from smokingpipes and they don't have extra mouth pieces so looks like the 307 may be out. I had asked if they had both the P-lip and fishtail. I hate to buy one that's only offered in P-lip not knowing if I'd like it or not. Time to look some more I suppose.

Man-what a difference!! For those prices I wouldn't mind being a guinea pig. The 307 is nearly 1/3rd the price as here but looks to be a P-lip but again, for that price I'd try it. They also give the price in pounds...don't know what "sterling pounds" mean, however but I suppose the Peterson System 307 Extra Large price of £52.95 ($81.01)as listed means sterling pounds.

One of those "show me" Missouri guys, huh? :) I wonder if they lay the wood to you in shipping. At those current prices even if they charge $30 to ship it's still cheaper by far. Who knows, I may like the P-lip. I'm not a clincher so, it may be a good match for me but I still like the fishtail as well.

An email is sent and thank you, sir for that link. photoman, I think the only problem is that they can't send tobacco, cigars or snuff but pipes are no problem, according to their website.

Customs is not an issue on pipes, only on tobacco.
And for what it's worth, I'm a clencher and prefer fishtails.... Get one and try is all I can say. It's really a love/hate thing with most people. Also, if you end up to liking the P-Lip, most repair guys can make you a fitting fishtail stem.
Good luck

@herbinedave: Thanks for the link!
According to the site calculator, a large Pete 305/307 will cost 53 sterling plus 16 sterling for insured tracked delivery, minus 12 sterling VAT exemption = 57 sterling / $88 delivered ..... which is a deal ! No customs to worry about unless you get 100 pipes at a time, they might assume you're getting them for resale.
