Holey Tin, Batman!
Was digging through the tubs that constitute my cellar over the weekend, and found this gift from years past. Started looking at it and found it to be rusty. Decided I should open it and jar it if it was to have any hope of being offered to the flame. Poured out the contents and sure enough, I could see through the bottom. Gave it all a good shake so any metal particles would likely be at the bottom and tossed the dust pile and only jarred the larger pieces. Loaded a cob to give it a try..... Couldn't really get past the charring light. Just not my thing - which is why it was buried so deep. This one may have to be sacrificed to something other than the flame...

Bummer. But maybe a good thing it wasn't a favorite then?

Pease has an article somewhere about pulling rust particles out of an old tin with a magnet... and maybe other methods too I can't remember

This is great.
I mean, it’s a bummer it happened but it’s really cool for the community to see “cellaring gone wrong”.
Cellaring is kind of romanticized but at the end of the day, it can be a crap shoot.
This is a real example and I’m glad it’s here.

TBH, I think it was in the same relative condition when I got it. I've had no other issues with anything in the same area of my home and have things there longer.
Yeah, I'm glad it wasn't one I had my heart set on. It hasn't been tossed yet, but might end up in the garden.
And removing fragments with a magnet would probably work just fine, just not concerned. It's "another" vanilla topping and I moved on from those a while back.

Dan Tordenskjold Virginia Slices.
This is one I’ve had my eye on for a while. I never pulled the trigger because it says it contains Perique. Perique doesn’t usually work for me. All I get from it is a mouthful of black pepper, which I love on food, but not tobacco. The reviews I’ve read on this one state the Perique in this one is undetectable, so I’m finally giving it a shot.
The tine note is sweet and fruity. I don’t get any spice and if the Virginia hay / bread smell is there, it is hidden by the fruit. These are truly slices. Very thin flakes of brown and yellow Virginia. I see some small black flecks possibly indicating Perique.
I’m going to spend some quality time with it this week and see where we end up. I bought 2 tins in case I like it.IMG_1074.jpegIMG_1075.jpegIMG_1076.jpeg
