In my quest to go wide before deep, another new blend for me, Cornell & Diehl Bayou Morning Flake. I've had a few Virginia perique blends, but never sure how much influence or flavor I was actually getting from the perique. This blend is 25% perique so I'm hoping to get a better feel for it when it plays a larger part.

As a lover of many things fermented, I'd highly recommend you give Exclusive a shot, if you haven't already. Can't miss the perique. ;)

Alternately, there is this option:

After running clean out of my beloved Jewel of St James jarred perique a while back, i've been using the above mentioned Exclusive to add perique to blends for a while. Finally broke down and decided to give C&D's offering a try. It's good stuff, too. Not to mention ez to work with. 👍

Another one checked off the to-try list:

Toscano Maestro Puccini (100% fire-cured Kentucky).

I also love Kentucky and had to give this one a go. First bowl was not overly impressive - although i saw the potential. After sampling from a couple other pipes, i find myself reaching for it once and sometimes twice in a day the last few days. Growing on me. A particularly satisfying smoke for the evening or after a meal. Thinking about trying a pairing with this and mescal in the near future. Seems it would be complimentary.

Thanks for the recommendation. I enjoyed my first bowl of Bayou Morning Flake quite a bit, so I think Exclusive could be on the list for my next TAD purchase.

Shunting ops. About 4oz left in the jar, moved to a smaller jar. Big jar reloaded. Same batch (02 339), but the stuff that's had 9 months in the jar has darkened considerably compared to the boxed - nice!

I’m a bit upset today. I decided to crack open some Esoterica blends to smoke this week, only to discover a small jar of 2017 Woodbridge had some mold on top and another small jar of 2019 Blackpool was completely inundated with mold. Definitely not sugar crystals here… just white, fuzzy mold! Being concerned, I opened a larger (quart sized) jar of Blackpool to see if it was ruined as well. The quart jar looked fine, but it seems I’ve lost a pint of the others. Grrr!IMG_1012.jpegIMG_1013.jpegIMG_1014.jpeg

Just begrudgingly cracked a tin of Dockworker. I'm trying to avoid opening tins but, equally, I'm still trying to learn what blends are for me. Haven't smoked any Dockworker yet but it came in a big, folded, messy broken flake. Hopefully smoking this will help me to isolate the flavour of orientals.View attachment 375634
That's sum good shight right there.

As for me, it was time to dig a little deeper into the cellar and bust out a 2009 tin of Escudo. Been a while since i've had any of this beloved pipeweed.

Stuffed a bowl full of this into a Tekin squashed tomato meer. Smells amazing. Catch ya on the WAYS thread... ;)
