Thanks for the updates, feels like we’re on the ride together....it’s like a corn cob jack in the box, how many cranks (bowls) until it pops open?

Hey guys.
So I'm still at it, haven't touched another pipe since I started this.
BUT.

My pipe smoking has slowed down dramatically.
I'm only at bowl 153. Why?
I started my training for my new job last Monday for Canadian National Railroad, as a freight conductor.
Training is for 7 weeks, and it's two hours away from home. Hotel is paid for me, and I get all my meals at the connecting restaurant for free.
I have been spending most of my time studying for my tests, and trying to get in the groove here, at my temporary home for the next 7 weeks.
But! The coolest thing here, is the smoking gazebo out back of the hotel. It's heated. So I plan on bringing my books out there so I can smoke while I study.
Also found out, where I'll be stationed after training, Fon du Lac WI, is also, two hours away from home, in the other direction. So now we need to start thinking about selling our house, and renting a different one closer to my job.
So anyways, the cob hasn't changed a whole lot. But I have a couple pictures.

Thanks for the update...glad to hear you and Roy are still going strong! However, away from home, and study time, means to me smoking time...are you sure there's not another pipe in your life?!

I've been following this, but I haven't commented yet. I really hope that little cob makes it the whole year. Would be interesting to see this happen. :puffy:

I was wondering about the project. Thanks for the update.
Congratulations on the job! Another railroad man! Study hard, pin down that job. Nothing better, good security. Good luck!

Being in command of a train! Wow! So you really won't have to grow up and get a job. I am envious!
The pipe looks to be in good shape for the shape that it is in. I can see you now, hanging onto the railing with one hand, leaning out the back of the caboose (if they are still in use) waving your candle powered (Canada right?)lantern, pipe jutting from your jaw, to tell the engineer to get his caboose moving.
You are living many a child's dream!

Congrats on the job. This is an interesting thread. Please keep it up no matter your smoking rate. I’ve been to Fon Du Lac a few times. Very nice people up there. I hope it all works out for you.

This is much better than "reality TV," although if you mounted a webcam on the pipe itself it might be fascinating...

Wow, didi', with the new job this has developed from an interesting piece of research into an bit of an epic, with the research attached. The pipe looks like it's doing well. Your training regime sounds pretty accommodating, comfortable and challenging. Also, most interesting. Railroads are an amazing culture of their own, and conductors are somewhat the bigwigs on their jobs, so that's propitious. Hope the food is good, and the weather stays fair for sitting outside. Which side of the border are you on, for training. Wisconsin's beautiful this time of year. Still Indian Summer in central N.C.

Thanks guys! Glad you haven't forgotten about me. I'm training near Chicago Il, and I'll be working in Fond du Lac WI. Home is just over the Wisconsin border. It's a trekk either way.
