You can with a pipe too and you can retrohale a cigarette. Inhaling isn't necessary for nicotine absorption but it can be done that way with either.
Turning 48 this month. Signs of mental and physical degradation are apparent and hearing is no where near as acute as it was just a few years ago.
I think my quote "You must inhale...." is taken out of context. I didn't mean it as a command, but more as a question. I don't inhale and believe it's not needed to enjoy a pipe.

Exactly. My audiologist is trying to talk me into the Phonak Audéo Paradise hearing aids but but they're nearly three grand each.

God bless you, and grant you many more years! My wife's dear Uncle Pat -- a linguist, a scholar, a brilliant curmudgeon (though sadly not a pipe smoker) -- would be 79 on St. Patrick's day also! But he passed away just 5 days short of his birthday last year. I raise my pipe to him -- and to you in his memory!
