in my opinion once you see mold in a jar or tin the whole thing is trashed. Though reminds me of the agar dishes when I had strep throat as a kid. That classic disc shape.I hope it has only infested a few flakes and not the whole jar

I always say this when people ask mold or plume.... It's never mold because you almost always can tell it's mold pretty quickly. Plume is the one that leaves you wondering.

Seems to me that is mould bloom on landscaping mulch, just saying.Yikes.

For future reference, was there any swelling of the tin? What kind of odour was there with this sample?
Was there anything to indicate the seal had been compromised? Or was this a previously opened tin?
I strongly agree with that point.
"A good rule of thumb to judge whether a mouldy food can be “saved” is its moisture content or firmness. Foods with a high moisture content such as cooked casseroles, soft fruit and vegetables, pastes/sauces and soft cheeses can have invisible hyphae growing below the surface and producing mycotoxins. The same is true for porous foods such as bread and cakes where the hyphae can penetrate. All of these foods should be discarded if you see mould on the surface."
