I've never had one die on me from not smoking it. Although, that would be terrifying if it happened like that....

What exactly did you think would happen to the pipes?

There are all kinds of worthy reasons to take a sabbatical from your pipes, even if we wouldn't find them worthy by a vote. Smoking a pipe is a pleasure, and if you don't have the time, that's your business, or if you have some other health issue or other kind of issue, that's your business. The pipe police ain't here.

Don't the large majority of people not-smoke their pipes for, like, their entire lives? Some of them seem to make it pretty far along. I'm guessing you'll be fine. 😉

We’ve been over this, Duane. It can only happen during a Halley’s Comet year.
That’s only for 9mm drilled shanks. What @Chasing Embers is talking about is tobacconite which is trapped under the carbon layer of the chamber. Briar is not as porous as meerschaum and so it can’t leach through (the primary cause of colouring). I think MM patented technology on using hardwood plugs on the bottom of the bowl as a safety valve to prevent these chamber wall explosions. That extension of the shank into the chamber creates a vacuum which pulls any residual tobacconite downwards.

Yeah it’s too much effort to delete this rant, so I’ll just post away

I hope you read them a bedtime story before tucking them into their boxes.
And you promised to ring them every night to tell them how much you miss them.

I put my pipes away for 30 years.
They forgave me when I got back with them
Pipes are more forgiving than wives or girlfriends 😆
