Had a chuckle afterwards, once I saw the conversation return to Amphora and Dr. Grabows.
Actually a good combination. I smoke Amphora in a patent era Linkman's Grabow Zulu.

+1. I got a Dr.Grabow Starfire that is now my best friend whenever I get OTC cravings.

Grabows are great American factory made briars, and smoke just as well as any artisan piece I own.

When I first started, only just over a year ago, I smoked a lot of McClelland Three Cherry. Burned my tongue at first like all newbs, but learned to enjoy it. I love the cherry aroma, and would like to try some other cherry blends. Any recommendations?

My wife bought herself an adorable li'l Chacom USA lovat a couple days ago, because she wanted to give smoking a pipe another try (though, I think she's just into the potential for accessories). I suggested perhaps beginning with something a bit more forgiving, like EMP, but she got giddy over the idea of Peterson's Nutty Cut. So, I finished off a bowl of Nutty Cut this evening... and I still seem to not be an aromatic convert yet. Eh, who knows what the future holds?

I'm going to hate myself, because it's already hard to find, but... Rattrays Bagpipers Dream,... blows my mind. The topping is like a mellow subtle men's cologne, paired with an awesome blend of different cuts of Virginias and a cavendish. It really hits all of the spots for me. I thought that it might make a nice morning aromatic, but then I found myself burning through a tin in days.

I was going to say, "No it's not. It's readily available here.... and here.... and here..... " but when I went to those websites to look, sure enough they were out of stock. As were a number of Rattray's blends. It's never been hard to find before and it's one of my favorites. In fact one of my must haves. I haven't ordered any for a while so I didn't notice. What gives?

I tried Bagpiper's Dream last year when I got a Rattray's Dublin, and had to stock it up myself. Love it too.

This has been a most enjoyable thread. Several years ago this August Forum did display something of an anti aromatic bias, though it was mostly due to several currently dormant members who would bluntly crap on aromatics and aromatic smokers. A few, myself included, would in turn bluntly crap on them when they crapped on others. It was a whole lot of crap. What made this ironic was that the anti aro thugs would thump their flabby chests over english blends (which were once referred to as aromatics), or Stonehaven (which is an aromatic).
Nowadays we all get along, at least when it comes to choices of tobaccos.
I was once a committed Captain Black smoker. Then I moved on to other blends and now smoke a wide variety, though my faves, currently, are Virginias and Va/Pers. I still smoke the occasional aro, though I'm not overly fond of Exotic Orange, but like orange flavored Peter Heinrichs Reserve Cru. And a revisit with Captain Black White, after a couple of decades, was less than happy due to the awful chemical taste that I hadn't noticed before.
The best thing about smoking a nice vanilla aro when I was young was that it helped get me laid. Women found the scent very enticing. English would send them screaming for the deodorant.
Now you really know why 90% of tobaccos sold are aros.

I smoke English almost exclusively but don't wag my spindly finger at those who prefer aros. And it hurts too much to thump my chest.....
As always, diff strokes, diff folks.

Good point! There are some cross-overs & aromatics that I actually do enjoy: Stonehaven, Pembroke, Ramsgate, Frog Morton Cellar, Irish Flake, Irish Oak, Shortcut to 'Shrooms, etc.
I've tried never being militant against styles of tobacco (though I ain't got no love for Cap'n Black), but it shows how easily our personal perceptions can be biased; I assumed that I personally wasn't much of an aromatic smoker, because I didn't consider what I smoked to be aromatics (until I stopped to really think about it).
Later in his life, my father developed liver issues, so he decided to quit drinking; and by 'quit' drinking, he switched from straight vodka to beer and wine.
There's an observation in there somewhere.
Perhaps, instead of being aromatic vs. English smokers, we should just concern ourselves with being pipe smokers? Life's much too short to be concerned with labels or Cap'n Black.
Now, I'm off to pound my saggy man-maries. Ooh-ooh!

I've smoked them all or the biggest percentage anyway the aros is what everyone else liked. I should say it did not bother them when I smoked that particular tobacco I can smoke both actually I like both so when I'm around a lot of people I smoke aros
