Well, if you do your own roasting, you can save money! But there's certainly a time commitment, and approval of wives and GF's generally required.
Oh, the lady of the house will approve. She frequents local coffee shops daily. She may appreciate the luxury of having it in house.?

Any books to be on the lookout for?

There must be hundreds of coffee table coffee books, as well as a lot of how to and historical tomes. But if I've read any, it was long ago, so can't recommend any.
I did spend a lot of time on Coffeegeek.com when I was getting into espresso at home. I just checked the site to be sure, and came across this: LINK: Expensive gear! Not needed. But some how-to's there.

Ever since hearing about the elastic trick I've made coffee in a rice cooker.
Put your coffee in a paper filter and close the paper around the grounds with an elastic, and throw the whole thing in a pot of boiling water.
I was buying a new coffee maker every year or so because they break so often, after trying and failing to fix the percolation system in the last broken machine I gave up on buying more of those. All I really want is a single reliable source of boiled water.

What I do miss is making tea in a coffee maker because percolation tends to do a pretty good job of not overcooking the tea, whereas now I have to monitor steeping time again.

The coffee taste and flavor is always different, it's depend of hundreds of factors, starting frome grinding and roasting till the weather outdoor and more importantly is the hand of barista... actually if you grinding coffee and let's it rest or make a cup at same time, taste and flavor will be different.
What about smell and taste of tobacco. If you want taste of fruits or cake or anything else Pipe it's wrong choice. You better try vape or shisha, with nice, super taste and flavor, amazing tobaccos full of chemical shitt and denatured trash.
Just imagine that you taste is always like a smell, how many bowls you can smoke?
I smoke for a taste of tobacco... flavor for me, is just a bonus ?.
Look for this issue from another side. You make burn something and it's smells good, but you don't wanna try to eat this.

It would be kinda weird to expect tobaccos to be any different.
Honey for example, smells completely different burning. It has that burning sugar smell that’s awful.

The reason we can taste any of the unburned aspects of tobacco is because we don’t taste just the smoke. We also taste the unburned tobaccos closest to the burning cherry of fire as it drives off the surrounding leaf’s volatile oils. This is why smoking slow and not letting the cherry extend to the full diameter of the chamber gives you more flavors. But, its still a mix of that smoke and oils.

Honey for example, smells completely different burning. It has that burning sugar smell that’s awful.

While true, what little smoke I produce tastes the same as drawing through an unlit chamber.

Actually, I am not in South Alabama. I am from Oklahoma, but I live, split between North Carolina and Central AL.
