Different, not better or worse as a general rule. It was the same for me when I was working on developing the wine habit palate, and still is. Differences between the nose and palate can be interesting to explore, seeing whether they match or not, what is similar / different is a little bit of the fun.

Taste is why I smoke. Sure there are times a bowl will fall flat on flavor for this reason or that, but there are times when it’s delicious. Always seeking flavor — The room note, tin note mean nothing. Tobacco leaf has a wonderful flavor to impart. I just can’t understand the need to soak it wet with artificial flavorings and scents.

In my opinion I have generally preferred English and Balkan blends smoke nicer than their tin note.
I have found vapers to smoke far less interestingly than the tin aroma.
Aromatics have always disappointed upon smoking.
I have a Cornell an Dhiel blend that stinks like a manure and damp hay filled barn, but smokes beautifully.

This.
Forgetting room note for a moment, and comparing only tin note and taste:
Balkans especially can be boring in the tin, but nothing short of delicious on the palate.
Whereas some Straight VAs and VaPers offer dark, stewed, fermenting fruits in the tin that would make any tobacco-hater salivate... and something rather different on the palate. Alas.

I know nothing about aromatics, but speaking of tobacco that smells and tastes like tobacco:
I don't pine for smoke-taste to be like smoke-smell; I pine for smoke-taste to be like tobacco-smell.

I smoke a tobacco on cold nights. In can it smells like mule dung. But when I smoke it it smells like wet dirty socks and I throw up. The fact is that I love this tobacco..................I don't wanna say the name, you can have a sales record tonight...........
Can’t say I ever savored either. So, I’ll take your word for it ??

Not at all like coffee. You can adjust the taste of tobacco by how dry it is, how tight it's packed, and the speed that it's smoked.
Actually, there are similar ways to adjust how coffee is prepared and consumed. And the type and newness of a grind will affect the "tin note", not to mention the bean itself.

So, yes, quite a bit like coffee.

Never got into the coffee obsession just load the filter and water reservoir and go.

I started smoking pipes around 1971. It's fairer to say most tobaccos taste differently than they smell. Flavors can vary from person to person, since people's ability to discern varies, and moisture content, pack, etc and also affect the flavors of a blend.
The smell of the old VaPer three Nuns has been compared to cat piss. Definitely didn't taste like cat piss smells.

Well, you have an inquiring mind, good sense of taste, and so....give it a whirl!
Lots of different beans, roasting degrees, and methods to prepare. Cheapest start is to make your own "Chemex" type of maker (now re-born as the fancy "pour over".... ) Just a filter, water at ca 190º, and a pot to catch it in.
That might make for a good Christmas shutdown project.?

Oh my, new toys!?

I think I've avoided learning about coffee roasting just as a financial self preservation.
Same with guns, reading about it does me no good because I'd never be able to afford any of the ideas I might learn about.
Well, if you do your own roasting, you can save money! But there's certainly a time commitment, and approval of wives and GF's generally required.
