Just picked up this Joseph Rogers pipe knife. I must say it is a step up from my old czech tools.

Yes and so do I otherwise these are nicely made time tested & dependable tools,though on a bit pricey side,

That's a beauty. I always wanted one like that. I had the stainless sheffield, and a blue plastic scale sheffield, but can't find either of them.

I’ve got an erinmore branded stainless one. I love it. Not so much as a tamper but it’s great for reaming.

That’s a fancy one. Very nice. I’ve had a plain one with black paint( that’s almost all gone) for a couple decades. Bought it from Greens of Leeds in the 90’s, and have managed to not lose it somehow.
Has anybody figured out why the tamper bends 90 degrees?

That is a fancy one. I have a stainless one that my father in law gave me about 10 years ago. I completely forgot about it until discovering it by chance in a junk drawer a couple weeks ago. It's really great for trimming cake, love the rounded tip.

I have the same exact model and have wondered the same thing about the tampers adjustable angle.

I've got a greenwood version. They're a great knife made by a company who've been doing it for donkey's years.

Here's some pictures from their old magnificent factory and the men that worked there. The knife in the bottom pic is something else.

I have one like this ,yet I suspect one could acquire these Rodgers knives more affordably at tobacconist shops in England than in the U.S or continental EU

I have the stainless steel one, it's one of my car tampers. I too wish the tamper surface was larger, but it gets the job done. I've found the angle to be of help when tamping one handed. I sort of hug the bowl with my palm and angle the tamper into it.

They rotate? I don’t believe mine does. I’m not sure they are supposed to?
