They rotate? I don’t believe mine does. I’m not sure they are supposed to?
Yeah. Definitely built to pivot 90 degrees, at least on mine. It makes no sense and is relatively useless unless your tobacco is above the rim of your pipe.

I’m thinking it rotates either because it’s the pipe codger version of a fidget spinner, or as a side effect of the most convenient way of attaching it to the rest of the knife.

My wife (fiancée at the time) got me a stainless one for Christmas a couple of years ago. I do wish the tamper was a little bigger, but it suits me just fine. I like it much better than the Czech tool, which I rarely ever used. I didn't know the tamper rotated either, but I just tried it. Whodathunkit?

I just brought the stainless steel version this weekend, had to put an edge on the blade and I agree about the tamper being too small but it doesn’t angle like the costlier version. Should last a lifetime though. Love the picture of the factory and that amazing tool.
