Hey all...I'm Jeff. Been smoking a pipe for about 14 years. On and off really. Over the past five years I have been doing it regularly and smoking more natural tobacco than the Captain Black and Prince Albert which dominated for the first 9 years. I am a filmmaker and legal researcher. I run a corporate video business and also do research for an attorney part time since my business is a fledgeling one. I studied political science and Film/Video. Since people are speaking of whiskey allot I will tell you that I do enjoy a nice single malt such as Oban or Glenlivit. As far as pipes and tobacco, I love the grain on briars and am a big fan of Stanwell. I really think that, as far as smokability, Meers and Cobs rule though! I'd say Ascoti, Bjarne and Boswell are some of my fave pipes. And I always buy MM's and occasionally search out meers such as IMP. I really want to get myself a Baki! As far as tobacco, I like VaPers and Stoved VA blends, as well as a good spicy English such as Artisans Blend (my go-to smoke). I enjoy theology, philosophy, reading biographies (Of musicians especially), the law, Movies, Plays and female companionship ;) Hope you all have a great day, and I am looking forward to posting with you!

P.S. (I'm a transplant from SF! Here's to Art and the crew! No offense to my new wonderful friends on this AWESOME site!)

FNG here. Just picked up the pipe a week ago. Must have something to do with turning 40 this year, not sure.
Anyway, after reading a bit on this forum and other places, I ordered about 10 different blends of tobacco and 4 cobs. Unfortunately, I had to send in another order to include some 1-Q because I figured it was a requirement to join this forum :)
Enjoying my smokes so far. Hope to have some questions answered too.
Cheers,

-Wayne

Hi. The name's Gray. Began smoking pipes about 10 years ago while I was in college partly from nostalgia for the smell from memories of my grandfather, partly to supplant cigarettes (successfully). The pleasure in the 'hobby' is unsurpassible as far as decandant indulgences are concerned, in my opinion. A nice smooth, sweet cav or straight molassass/whiskey cured burly (made by a friend) does well to relax and soften the mood for any day. I've spent quite some time on a tobacco farm here in NC, and I must say, smoking a pipe is the closest one can get to smelling a crop curing in the barn. You can smell it for miles. This side of the state can become like one big smkers library. It leathers the trees and shelves all things with volumes of pensive and reveled thoughts. My two pleasures are a nice Porto and my pipe. I am a writer, a language connosuier, a traveller, and an unemployed educator. I have a small collection of pipes--and an odd habit, after most every pipe, I stick a piece of cinnamon gun in my mouth. It keeps the sweetness from the pipe going and keeps me from packing another and going at it for another hour or two. This is my first pipe forum, and, honestly, the first forum I have ever posted in. I look forward to reading everyone's thoughts and techniques on everything, though, I will say, as far as packing methods go, I am un-swervable from the "frank method." Cheers, tally-ho, full steam ahead, and all that jazz.

Hello to all, I am 42 and from Indiana. Just started smoking a pipe about 3 months ago, and enjoy it very much. I like others have done searches and wind up to this site, so thought I would join. I have learned so much here already and hope to enjoy my pipes for yrs to come. Started with a cheap corncob, very quickly bought a Briar, now I have two of them and looking to buy my third. I hope to get to know a few of you here.

Hey all!
Been a long time reader and just registered.
32y/o and been smoking pipes since 2008. I still have my first unopened tin! (G. L. Pease Maltese Falcon) I figure it would be a special occasion tin when I reach 50years old. Not sure it will hold up well.
Any ways, I been on and off a few forums as yellowgoat. A name I used when I had a yellow GTO. Now I live in Vegas so... yeah. Thats why my user name is what it is here today.
So, yup!
Cheers!!

Ok being new here I have a question. In the book review area, does it have to be a book on pipes? Or is it open to any book I would like to post a review on? I have several I have read and would like to share with others.

Hey guys. I am in Georgia, but originally from the Bahamas. I've been smoking cigars for about eight years. During that time I have rubbed shoulders with many within the cigar industry which sped up my learn process greatly ... so cigars I know. When it comes to pipes and pipe tobacco I am as green as can be. I still love cigars, but from what I can see pipes seem to be just as enjoyable and more cost effective.

Hey! I'm 20 from Missouri, and just started smoking a pipe this week, and wasn't planning on joining any forums for a while. However, during my pipe research, I kept finding the best answers on this site, so I figured I'd go ahead and join! I'm in a small town that only has a small head shop and a Discount Smoke Shop (mainly for cigarette smokers, of course), but between those two and amazon.com, I think I'm set for the basics.

As my profile says, I've started off with a $30 briar pipe and Middleton's Cherry Blend, though I'm about to buy a corncob and a briar pipe from amazon.com, and recently bought a pouch of Prince Albert.

Oh, and I used to be a cigarette smoker, but only very casually (a couple every few months).

I'll go ahead and stop here before I ramble on forever. haha

Ask if you have any questions, and I'll do the same! Not sure how active I'll be, as I tend to be pretty sporadic as far as forum posting goes, but I guess we'll see! ^_^

Hello all, I'm new to the site as well.
I'm 25 and have been smoking for the past few years.
I don't have a particular blend I am partial to, I enjoy both English and aromatics.
A Savinelli is my pipe of choice

The Interwebs
Welcome new members! Jump right into the conversations (and review any book you'd like, frank), you'll find this to be a very warm and welcoming community, no pressures, and a treasure trove of information, friendly advice, and occasionally good-natured debate. Spend some time acquainting yourself with the forum threads via the search (it's wonky though, so be forewarned) to see all the recurring topics that have been addressed frequently (aging & storage, care & maintenance, etc.), as well as the feature articles by Bob to the left. For good ideas about what to smoke, our constant "What are you smoking?" thread and the sister site, Luxury Tobacco Reviews, are a great start. For cigar aficionados you can also check out another sister site (big family!), Cigar Chronicles.

Hey guys, I'm a 32 year old pipe smoker from East Texas. I'd like to find some other smokers around here to eventually start a club. We'll see I guess.

Hello,
It's been a few weeks since I signed up, so it's about time I joined the introduction round too. I live in The Netherlands and I smoked my first pipe about twelve years ago. A few years later the lure of cigarettes got the better of me, but now I've dug up a few of my favourite pipes again (the cigarettes are definitely on their way out). I joined this forum for several reasons. Pipesmokers are always threatened by tobacco legislation and united, if only in a forum, we're stronger. Discovering new information and sharing experience is another reason, but I also need to clear out the remnants of my PAD (see under Gregory Pease). It hit me quite badly back then, so I'm sitting on well over a hundred pipes that have never seen a flame and most of which I'll never smoke. Not because I don't like them, but the ones I use now will see me through for the rest of my natural life expectancy. Better try and make someone else happy, so I'll try posting a list in the appropriate forum within the next few days. It's an assorted lot from Baldi and Savinelli to Stanwell and Jensen via Dunhill and Ashton, and from run-of-the mill to POY and triple A straight grains.

Very nice forum! Although I firt puffed a pipe in 1993, when living in England, I've just started seriously smoking a pipe for about one year. Actually, not that seriously, as pipe smoking is maily about relaxing...
