wait how did it go bad? I've had mine for like two years in a plastic bag and it's held up wonderfully. Pretty much unchanged as far as I can tell.
in the foil birck with a tight bag clip - smoked it pretty regularly - i guess moisture in the air got to it or something - went completely foul - didn't see mold but when smoked it was deathly - ammonia, sulphur, salty garbage - tossed it and sold the 2nd brick I had in the cellar

I don't see how that's the fault of the tobacco then.

Thanks for the heads up! Semois is a staple.

Are you familiar with semois? It's smoked dry -
Manil advises against moisture
The air is moist
There's always a chance it will be over-exposed
So clearly IT IS THE TOBACCO'S FAULT
top that off with the fact that there are no preservatives used(sometimes a dumb move)
A Daughters and Ryan blend will last for years exposed to the elements
This is poor performance for a tobacco that costs $28.00 for a few ounces

That's what I mean. The dude himself says don't hydrate this, but you didn't seal it when you got it. If you live in a humid environment, say, Florida or somewhere similar, it's on you to make sure the tobacco stays at the right moisture level.

That's why we jar things. I live in Southern California where it is extremely dry, therefore, I probably could have left it out in the brick and it would be fine. Even still, I jarred mine because why mess around with that stuff?

Yes but I'd say even where you are there's a chance it could become rotten - so it's like treading a tightrope with it - I was smoking it regularly and thought I'd finish the birck - anytime you open that jar it could go bad -I may recall someone else mention their went bad too - so I'm not alone.

I excitedly ordered a brink. So members typically don't jar their Manil?

Regarding his hair: I wonder how many of the comments are from baldies.
by members are you referencing me and the context of this thread? As I had mentioned and speaking for myself I did not - I smoked it for months out of the brick and bagclipped the end - got through just over 1 half of the brick. My logic was that it's dry tobacco anyway so if I'm smoking it "why, jar it?" guess you need to jar it and keep it closed and in a dry part of your house. Too delicate for me - I won't be buying his tobacco any longer, not at that price. I hear cigaretta by DR and Pure Caribe by Mcconnel is a lot like Semois - I rarely mess with cigar blends.

Known for its use of Semois leaf — a Burley varietal grown in Belgium's Ardennes Valley — Tabac Manil here presents their fourth pipe tobacco blend, La Volute. Like the La Brumeuse blend, La Volute consists purely of Semois tobacco but is cut more like a crumble cake rather than a ribbon. Such a cut makes for a more rustic blend that highlights different characteristics of the leaf and offers a longer smoking time than Tabac Manil's more finely cut blends.

Just ordered 4x of this stuff. And now we wait... Kinda excited about this. Really looking forward to see how it compares and contrasts with their other blends.

Morning made! Merci, Shanez for the 411!

Aren't you in NJ? Can get rather humid in the summers... some natural snuffs are recommended to be stored in the refrigerator.

Yes, it was in the Summer - good observation - but the Fridge!? Fridge is kind of humid, no?
snuff needs to stay humid. So While that is great for snuff might not be great for that pipe tobacco. Sorry your stuff got ruined that sucks. Seems like it can happen to tobacco under the right conditions. I've heard of people with deep cellars getting mold and nasty funk from other tobaccos too. It's funny it can get really humid here and my stash of the semois certainly got moist compared to before. It didn't change much just made it smoke a touch slower.
