This year’s show is May 1-3, at the Westin in Itasca, IL.
Same weekend, different location

We have a minimum number of room rentals, so we need attendees to stay at the Westin. This is about the survival of the show. Please make reservations asap.

We need donations for the silent auction, again, this is about the survival of the show.

The Westin is located at the junction of three expressways and is close to O’Hare Airport.

Please attend the free Friday night banquet for future show announcements.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. We have had less than three months to put the show together under the most pressing of circumstances.

Just a suggestion. If you want to raise a little extra money, allow people to purchase reserved tables in the tent. Either per night or for all 3 days. Then people could wander around and leave their drinks, coats, etc. at the table without being concerned about losing it. Wouldn't be big money but I suppose every little bit helps.

How does one go about donating something for the silent auction?
I don't know the logistics at this point. But once we get to the hotel, it will be easier. Show officers and other volunteers will be able to direct you to the correct area. Thanks

If anyone wants to donate anything to the silent auction, you could either bring it to the show with you, or you could mail it. Please PM me for the mailing address.

Not to be a downer, but while the 1000 person limit might be problematic in a normal year I suspect it’s unlikely to matter this time around. The greater danger is that at some point in the next six weeks the governor decides the 250 cap (or some other significantly lower number) becomes mandatory instead of volitional.

Show Update 3.15.2020 (COVID-19)

The Chicago Pipe Collectors Club is committed to hold the Chicago Pipe Show on May 1 – 3, 2020. All of the current travel restrictions on flights run to mid-April. We are hopeful that these restrictions will slow the Covid-19 pandemic and will not be extended to include our Show dates. We are concerned with the health of all who plan to attend the Show, but we are not willing to cancel the Show in mid-March.

Just out today:
The CDC has issued guidelines calling for all events involving 50 or more people be delayed for 8 weeks. The CDC cited conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies where more than 50 people will attend.

Actually that article was incorrect. I just looked at his twitter page. The event limit is presently still 1000 people or less in Illinois.

From the CDC website:

"Guidance as of 3/15/2020

Large events and mass gatherings can contribute to the spread of COVID-19 in the United States via travelers who attend these events and introduce the virus to new communities. Examples of large events and mass gatherings include conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies. These events can be planned not only by organizations and communities but also by individuals.

Therefore, CDC, in accordance with its guidance for large events and mass gatherings, recommends that for the next 8 weeks, organizers (whether groups or individuals) cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States.

Events of any size should only be continued if they can be carried out with adherence to guidelines for protecting vulnerable populations, hand hygiene, and social distancing. When feasible, organizers could modify events to be virtual."

So, I dunno. Who do we have to convince that we can adhere to 'guidelines for protecting vulnerable populations' (which include a significant proportion of attendees)? How much is up to us as attendees and how much is up to the venue? Eight weeks from the date this was posted covers the show.
