Prairie Thunder (1937)

To increase profits for his shipping company, Lynch has goaded the Indians to attack both the telegraph line and the new railroad. When Lynch sells rifles to the Indians, Rod Farrell captures Lynch and his gang. But Lynch's Indian friends free him and this time Farrell finds himself the prisoner.

A couple of '50's movies come to mind: In "A Face in the Crowd," Walter Matthau is seen smoking a pipe in just about every scene he was in. In "Separate Tables," the David Niven character fiddled with pipes he kept on the mantle but is never seen actually smoking one.

Another Peterson in 'The Riddle Of The Sands' starring another 'late' actor, poor old Simon MacCorkindale. If I remember rightly Jenny Aggatter gifted him the pipe in the film, among other things......lucky chap!?
