With the right combination of words, one can still find weird stuff on the internet. It used to be easier before SEO assholes and big tech screwed it all up. I remember once, a crazy ride down the intertubes reading about the dark side of kundalini awakening (cliff notes, proceed at your own peril).

Anyway, mold is a boogeyman we all know and fear. Came across this weird article.

The comments are interesting.

I find it interesting that this sort of stuff always has two plausible explanations: one materialistic in nature, and the other more metaphysical. Who's to say for sure.

Luckily the mold that grows on tobacco isn't the black kind.

This also reminds me about how humans used to believe in the four humours. When tobacco use first discovered, it was believed to be beneficial in providing a "hot and dry" counter to "cold and wet" aliments.

Then there is smudging. Has it use resulted from the smoke counteracting mold spores? Who knows.

Things to make one wonder.

I’m older than toxic mold, it wasn’t a problem when I was a kid.

Back then if something was moldy we either bought Kill Zit and repainted it or used it moldy and went on.

That is, unless the world was created a second ago and all our memories are just phantoms.

Let me stop you right there about human thought and rationality...

... we're a dumb species, it's no surprise there's weird stuff out there.
Oh, I'm well aware of the modern myths around objectivity (e.g. scientism). Here's another wiki on the hopelessness of human objectivity: Cognitive bias - Wikipedia - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_bias

I am also a fan of Kierkegaard, and place more value in my hard-earned subjective truths over some bozo's "objective" truths. When you know, you know. One mercy of getting old.

That all said, I don't know what to make of toxic mold. I hope I never do.

and if you want to question if people thought mold was bad for us, remember for much of history people believed in the miasma theory of disease. Smells cause illness. And unless you think they thought mold smelled good.....
We were discussing Valley Fever (Coccidioidomycosis) with some friends a few months ago--also caused by a fungus colonizing the lungs, and prevalent in the Southwest. It was discovered in 1892.

Neighbors down the street from us, that my wife is friends with, had a weird 5 to 6 year family mystery chronic illness that finally has started to resolve itself. They found mold hidden under the floor in the bathroom, and since getting it got taken care of, there has been a miraculous recovery.

The mother and two young daughters were affected, but not the father. Mind fog, fatigue, toenail fungus, mood swings, weight loss, etc. Thought it was Covid longhaulers. Tried all sorts of things to treat it, including nicotine patches for the mother (they worked to alleve symptoms, but it was just temporary).
