Looks like these are returning for 2018 :) Slightly different shape from the 2015 version, but at same price and limited edition. Curious if MM is making more on this year's run.

I'll note Jay's comments.....
How does this pipe smoke differently than a regular cob? There was an explanation behind the theory of the "reversed calabash" functionality offered, but no actual answer to his question.
Besides the odd, unconventional look to this "reversed calabash" cob.... I've read no critiques about whether or not the reverse calabash system performs/functions as intended? Does it work? Does it work any better... does it smoke any cooler.... than a traditional cob....or, do these pipes just look different? If the answer is "no", or "it smokes the same"...then what's the point?
Just curious.

They actually do cool down the hotter and harsher smoking blends much like their gourd cousins. Just ordered one of the 2018 naturals to match my 2015. Here's a video from MM about how they are made.

chasing....Thanks for the answer. Much obliged for the link.
Enjoy your fat-shanked, cob. Good to know that it works as intended.
All very interesting.

Very welcome. They are a bit pricey for a cob, but still less expensive than a briar reverse calabash.

I bought a Radice reverse calabash in 2015 and have noticed zero difference in it cooling the smoke. Also the tenon doesn't fit snugly anymore. It hasn't disengaged during a smoke, but because of this and the clunky, thick stem, I smoke it much less.

Are these available to order anywhere before the 20th?
MM had a waiting list for special edition pipes, and are currently offering the pipes to those on the list via email.

When I first saw one of these pipes that Chris Morgan made for the Cobbfoolery contest several years ago I have always liked the design.

Then later on when the pipes went into production they where sold out before I could nab one.

I will definitely try to buy one of these this time around.

I like the one in the last photo the best, but I won't be picky I would like any of them.

Thank you for the update on this new run of calabash/Cob's. Fellas! :)

Asking only out of curiosity.....
Are cobs that are used for pipe-making a special strain of corn? Are these cobs harder, denser, larger in diameter, than ordinary store-bought corn? If I go to the store and buy some fresh corn, can I make my own pipes? Are pipes made from dry or fresh cobs?
I'm asking because _in a store that carries Mexican/Spanish products, beans, dry chiles, sauces, spices, etc. - I have seen bags of dried corn kernels (GOYA brand) that are at least 4X larger than every day corn. I think it might be giant Peruvian corn kernels, or Pozole/Hominy corn. These kernels are enormous. I wonder if the cobs are also much larger in diameter?
Thanks.

I was one of the guys on the waiting list for one of these pipes.

When I got the email, it made my day. I didn’t wait around, I placed my order right away.

I bought a few other cobs, too, just to round out my collection.
Ever since I saw the 2015 version on this bbs, I have been searching the web trying to get my own.

But now having read and watched the company’s comments about those pipes, I understand why I couldn’t find one: they only made 200 of them!
I’m pretty jazzed about this pipe.

It looks hawt.

I can’t wait for the mailman to deliver it, he better look out cause I just might kiss him when he hands it to me.

After they're initial release, 50 more were made for online retail shops, but these too were snatched up quickly.

Mine has softened some of the harsher blends in my cellar more so than any of my cobs.
