Harris, I believe tobacco can still be shipped into Wisconsin. You must be thinking of Washington state.
I live in Wisconsin, and tobacco can be shipped into Wisconsin. It is Washington that you can't. Bradley from Stuff And Things is always mentioning it. He lives in Washington.

How do Washingtonians get their leaf then?
Well, I was able to secure a tin of Frog Morton. Never smoked anything from McClelland before, so we'll see whether I'll be depressed over them closing or I'll simply wish them good luck without feeling utterly deprived.

Though it is verboten (a felony for the buyer and the shipper in fact) to ship tobacco to Washingtonians via mail, many retailers do it anyway. After all, what does a retailer based in North Carolina care about a Washington state law? In their opinion, its not up to one state to unilaterally regulate interstate commerce, and I'm inclined to agree.
I get my tobacco to Washington via retailers willing to ship here. Many others get it by shipping to Oregon and picking it up. It's not illegal to drive it across the border!

I may be mistaken, but I believe the McClelland name comes from Mary's maternal grandfather.
Thanks Tom............ I had a hunch that might be the case, makes sense.

Good to see you back here too!............. :puffy:

tom, I am glad to hear some retailers say f u to Washington st. How they get away with that shit amazes me. Hell in my state of Florida there is an 85% wholesale tax on pipe tobacco but a ZERO tax on cigars. Tell me that is any kind of fair.

Washington state is starting to take this pretty seriously. A smoking buddy of mine in Eastern Washington told me he got a warning from the state alcohol, tobacco and cannabis agents. He was told that the post office is starting to check the packages. State wants it's tax money.

Thanks for the welcomes back, folks!
Hmm, stories - Moved to the Tacoma, WA area in May. Doing the insurance gig here, same as I was in Reno. Wife's looking for a job now so we can buy a house soon. Kid started kindergarten and is doing well. I have 4 more pipes than I did last we spoke and much more tobacco...
All pretty good! How are things on your ends?!
Oh, and I missed the West Coast Pipe show this year - I WILL be there for the 2018.

Same. (Missed it but will be there later this year)
We've moved house, twice in the past year, but now we're settled in a very comfortable spot on the Monterey Peninsula. Life is good.
Take care!

40th Aniversary tins are already popping up on Ebay. Nothing on Pipestud yet. Looks like over $50 a tin :(

Smokingpipes ships to WA, but they have changed from 'Laudisi enterprises' to 'Smokingpipes.com'. They also make one check a block stating that they are not collecting tax, but that WA will, and that the buyer must acknowledge they are required to pay that tax.
I am so glad my cellar is 98% full. It is getting to be such a pain in the butt.

Hi

While I firmly believe an owner should do what he or she wishes with their company, I would hope consideration would be given to the customers. Why not sell the company to C&D or another firm or make their blend components known for others to carry the torch? The reach of the FDA involvement is far from certain as we are still fighting on a number of fronts. Sad And while I have nothing but respect for the owners of McClelland and their desire to retire, may I humbly ask that you at the very least leave your legacy to another who is willing to continue to push on. I am so sad and disappointed that some of my favorite tobaccos will simply disappear when other options are available.

Best
PS I contacted C&D about possible blends that might eventually disappear due to FDA involvement. They are fighting for each and every blend against FDA tyranny.I have been so encouraged by their commitment that I would hope McClelland might look there to see the fight left in the community and allow others to carry on their wonderful legacy.

they had offers to sell their company and they declined to do so because they didn't believe that anyone else would do justice to their blends. Maintaining quality was the most important thing.
