Under the price support system there were grades. There were auctions because tobacco often brought over the support level, and the better grades brought the highest prices. I am in a tobacco growing region. My great uncle, who passed away in the late 60's, was recognized as a careful, superior tobacco farmer. I remember how proud my Great Aunt was to be living in a brick house when their neighbors lived in wood frame houses. He built it with tobacco money. He frequently got the highest prices for the year at the Greenville, TN auction. The only incentive to drive the best to the market place is the incentive born in man. His pride in his work, to offer his customer the best product for the best price
.Can't we just let people enjoy their well deserved retirement? It is over; it is done. But the bitchfest continues.......
That would be a great t-shirt too.The disconnect was decrying the loss of Government intervention in the tobacco business (price supports) and simultaneously decrying Government intervention in the tobacco business (the FDA).
You nailed it, woodsroad. Some people, unfortunately, never get it. They see a horse running down a race track and try to convince the world that it's a cow. :wink:Can't shake the Devils hand then say you're only kidding.- woodsroad
