That is spectacular! I love how the grain lined up perfectly, and GREAT choice of stem color!

This is what a second pipe looks like. There's a lot wrong with it but it's a second pipe and that's to be expected. The top or the dome of the pipe looks wobbly, the closer the shank gets to the stummel looks crooked, it's hard to tell if you funneled the stem by the bit, looks like you just took a 1/16" drill bit and went all the way through. The round or oval shape of the bowl from the top pic is not symetrical, where the shank meets the bottom of the bowl does not flow with the stem, overall it could use some more sanding/buffing. I can't tell from the pic but the draft hole looks ok maybe slightly to one side but it looks like it has good placement in the bottom of the bowl, so that's good. But this is a second pipe and that's what most second pipes look like. It seems like you have some potential. Keep making more and more pipes, look at pics online, join the PMF and ask for critiques. I would say as for value this is not a pipe to sell but rather to keep as a shop pipe.

I like how the tortoise shell acrylic stem matches the bird eyes on the rim in both color and pattern.

It looks wonderful in the eyes of most forum members and I can't tell it's a second pipe at all, so you are quite good at your hobby or that you can consider going professional some day.

Do not consider going professional making pipes like this because honestly your family will starve. Your receiving praise for mediocrity. The comments from everyone else are nice but not helpful at all. If your serious about this hobby and have a pair of eyeballs you know in your heart what I'm talking about. Also, you should sand out the stain/wax in the bowl.

lol Foah, thanks for your hard advice? I am a bit of a perfectionist and know this pipes every flaw. I wouldn't feel comfortable giving this pipe away, let alone selling it.
I figured some people on here would enjoy seeing what a "second ever" pipe looks like and I believe they did.
I had fun making it and learned a lot in the process. Whenever I get around to finishing my 3ed pipe, I will also post it here. However if you notice the dates, you wont don't hold your breath.
Anyway, thanks again to everyone that did and didn't like it :)

What?! I'm being honest. People want the truth. The reason I am being so hard is because I think with time, patience, and practice this young man could be a very good pipe maker. I honestly do see a lot of potential. That potential will never be reached with all of your pats on the back. 7ach, keep making pipes buddy.

I think the point, foah, is that this is not a pipe MAKERS forum.
Perhaps you are more used to that venue?

He did offer an honest critique at first. It was, perhaps, rather abrupt and the commentary about 7ach's family starving was quite unnecessary.
For 7ach, I thought your work was quite striking, visually. I like the rounded top (rim?) - it's not something you see very often. However, I can't speak to its functionality, as I'm not likely to take up the art of handmade pipes my own self. If it's something that makes you happy, then keep plugging away, brother. I'll cheerily admire your efforts from a civilian perspective!
For Foah, I believe you've run afoul of forum etiquette. Being a newcomer my own self, I shall leave it to the veterans to point out how. Critically speaking, you started the commentary on 7ach's effort on a constructive note, then descended into unnecessary bashing, (ie: 'your family will starve'). This was not a comment that provided helpful feedback. Rather, it came across as mean-spirited. I find that when providing critique, leaving the scorn out of the equation will make any expressed opinion come across as intending to provide helpful feedback. Unpleasant editorial commentary serves no purpose apart from making yourself feel better at the expense of others.

For a second ever pipe I'd say it's really good. You seem to have a natural eye and hand for the lines and flow of the shaping of the bowl. The grain is really nice on it. The only criticism I'd note is it doesn't appear the draft hole is dead centered and there's a bit of stain inside the bowl. I'm sure those are things that you'll clear up soon though. You seem to have a lot of potential. I'd keep carving as long as you enjoy it.

That is a very impressive piece of work, particularly for a second pipe.

I wish I had more knowledge of pipes and pipe making to give you some constructive criticism, but I'm fairly new to all of this and that pipe honestly looks really good to me, especially for it being your second creation!

Dude that's a nice piece of work regardless of how many you have made.
Keep it up. Somehow it reminds me that mushroom season will start in these parts very soon.
Its funny how some people "operate", you show your second homemade pipe and get a warning

about going pro.
I thought your response was very professional BTW.
