I’m a big fan of Lovat’s (pronounced “Love it”) named after Lord Lovat, Chief of the Fraser Clan.

I have a number of Lovats and to my eye they are just a long stemmed billiard with a short stem. Here are a few of my favorite in my collection. This first one is my first Rad Davis pipe I ever bought back in 2012.

These next 2 are both made by Rad Davis.

This last one is a Jack Howell Lovat.
These almost make me reconsider. But then I can't get the image of a pigmy standing at a lathe in the middle of the jungle, and then I lose it.

I love my lovats. I missed buying one of the briarworks lovats when they were available for like a week, and I’ve regretted it ever since. Next time I see one, I’m going to have to jump on it
I have three from BriarWorks. For the last one I actually contacted them directly and chatted with Micah, and they did a run at my request, as they were out at the retailers and on their site. They are great little Lovats and superb smokers from a top notch group of guys!

The pencil shank saddle stem Lovat is inexplicably attractive, I "want" to buy just about every one of them I see, the only thing stopping me is usually just that short pipes annoy me (I like to have distance between my face and the bowl) and it's very rare to find a long shank Lovat (especially an affordable one).
Bruce Weaver used to make some looooooong ones.

Beyond the namesake, I think the Lovat shape was very popular in Scotland. I have and have seen a few Charles Rattray and John Cotton shopmade pipes (read while they were actual shops not just brands) and every pipe but one was a Lovat (the lone exception was a thistle shaped bowl from John Cotton). In addition, when looking at photos of Scotsmen, the shape is quite well represented.

The Lovat is also my favorite shape, either the thin shanked variety like the Sasieni Marlborough or the thicker shanked Dunhill Shape 11 and its ilk. I love the whole family of Lovat, Lumberman, Canadian, Liverpool. As pleasing to me, though apparently few others if its numbers are any indication, is the Lumberman, it's saddle stem making it easier to hang its longer oval shank from my jaw.

Thanks, that’s very helpful. I might just have to do the same
