Starting to Get Obsessed

Now I really need to try this brand. Carter Hall was what my grandfather smoked. It has been so long since he has been gone I forgot the name until you mentioned it. So truly from the bottom of my heart thank you for replying. I’ve always wanted to try it but could never remember the name.
Glad to have been of help! I bought a pouch a couple years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, even more than many more "premium" blends. I haven't bought some for a while as I thought they just went to tubs, but I recently found bulk Carter Hall. The perfect blend for breaking in new pipes, or so a number of old timers have said

Thank you for the recommendation I’ve added it to my cart on smokingpipes.

Is anyone here familiar with the cobblestone brand of aromatics? My brick and mortar has a couple tins they sell.

You’ll have to let us know what you think of the SWRA.
Just got it and I will tell you even though its not some top shelf boogie tobacco, I love it. Im not necessarily a boogie person but those are the only tobaccos I have known thus far. This tobacco is sweet with subtle hints of cherry and almonds to me at least. It has a subtle but nice room note. It also smokes cool so this will make its rotation as an all day smoker for me.

For starting pipe smoking, I often suggest people keep the quantities fairly small --one or two ounces bulk, one tin, one pouch, etc. Your taste will change a lot. When you don't like a blend, just jar it and try it again in a year.

I like C&D burley blends a lot, or burley inclusive blends like Old Joe Krantz, Billy Budd, Tuggle Hall, and Stratfordshire, all available in bulk. I've long liked their Bayou Night, and now a similar blend in different proportions, Mountain Camp.

Going from Army Ranger to Alaska pilot, you lead a daring life.

Lots of pipe experience and expertise here. I'm always impressed. Someone asks what seems like an impenetrable question, and a member pops up with an authoritative answer like it's common knowledge. Along with a certain amount of banter and guff -- which, having been in the military, you know so well.

G'day and welcome from Oz.

Flying in Alaska is a risky business. Don't take unnecessary risks and keep yourself safe.

Early Morning Pipe Match and Macbaren Vanilla Cream are in my rotation at the moment. Both are very nice.
I've not read all the posts but I'm sure that someone has already mentioned to buy 1oz of many bulk blends so you get a feel for your preferences.
That's the way to go.

Although there's many tinned brands that I really like [Orliks Golden Sliced and Racing Green are absolute favourites. Formers Birds Eye Flake yum] and many which I'd love to try but it's too hard to get tins into Australia, so I stick to bulk blends.
Plenty of good ones from which to choose and bulk is way more economical.

Three blends I'd recommend are 4noggins Jesses Own - an English with Perique - surprisingly mild and quite tasty.
The 4noggins Butternut Burley is a favourite aromatic. [Same as Scottys BB but cheaper]
And for something different, Count Pulaski is a really nice aro with Latakia.

Missouri Meerschaum cobs are very good smokers and are cheap. I've got five MM cobs in my regular rotation.
Get yourself a few with a hardwood plug at the base of the bowl - like the Country Gentleman.

Good luck on your next stage of life.

I flew a Super Cub in Alaska in '92. You'll probably love it as it is amazingly beautiful up there.
Thank you for your service.
