Howdy, Welcome from Texas, and thank you for your service my friend. Good to have you here.
There are so many pipes to choose from, and that's a very personal thing, so I can't recommend a pipe, other than MM cobs. I'd buy a few of the Mark Twains if I was headed to Alaska.

Don't overlook bulks. Based on what you have smoked in the past, I'd suggest trying some of the Sutliff bulks, in particular 503 Heavy English (I like to mix it 10:1 with their 507-C Stoved Virginia) and Match Balkan Sobranie Original Mix. I also recently tried Lane HGL which I liked.

Oh wow I’m very intrigued by the peanut butter and chocolate but I’ll grab a ton of all these. Please by all means recommend the English you are trying as well.
I'd look in the thread I'm linking and there's another around as well running right now. These folks know English a lot better than I do! Welcome, Sir! Thank you for your patriotic service!
If you like Balkans, Balkan Supreme, which has a bit of an aromatic character to it, might be one to try. It is always available from various online tobacconists.

Best of Luck in your new life!

Hello and welcome from West Virginia. Do not overlook the Codger blends. These tobaccos have been around for a long, long time for a reason. They are a good, basic smoke. Velvet, Sir Walter Raleigh, Granger, Prince Albert, Half & Half and there are Match blends of past greats, such as Field and Stream, Walnut, Holiday, etc. Try them, I think you will enjoy some of the past greats.
You forgot my favorite of the codger blends: Carter Hall!

An original sized Peterson Sherlock Calabash would be up your alley as would be a Lestrade, which I’m enjoying right now!

That is an amazing looking pipe! I’ve actually always wanted a Calabash but haven’t pulled the trigger on one yet. I’m definitely getting one like yours.

I’ve actually never had a cob. I really should get one or two I will absolutely look at the ones you mentioned. All the tobacco you mentioned I like the description on smokingpipes so I’ll add them as well.

One of the few remaining English pipe makers.

Mike Billington is a gentleman.

His Sir Douglas is one of the most classically proportioned Lovats in my eyes.
I love it I sent them an email hopefully I’ll be able to get one. Even though I’m no longer in the military I’m very much in touch with my past. So having a pipe made for a fellow serviceman all the better.

Now I really need to try this brand. Carter Hall was what my grandfather smoked. It has been so long since he has been gone I forgot the name until you mentioned it. So truly from the bottom of my heart thank you for replying. I’ve always wanted to try it but could never remember the name.
