True story... I was really getting into Heart and Joan Jett, but I wasn't really a metalhead, so to speak. But, I was in the record store when they were putting out records of this new band I had never heard of, Motley Cru. I saw the poster and thought, 'wow, those are some sexy dressed rocker girls. So, I bought the album and took it home, and listened to it, still thinking they were girls. I mean, they looked and sounded like girls. But, man, they were the most blasphemous girls I had ever heard of, outrageous. I kinda respected that... till I found out that they were crossdressers... then it was just weird to me, and I gave the album away.
Great music to listen to, if you just discovered jerking off… ?
I just think of he whole hair band generation as some very gender confused people.

Random, unsolicited factoid from my caffeinated fingers: I was a guitar tech for a band that was on tour with Joan Jett at one point, I got to chit chat with her somewhat regularly for a few weeks...she was super friendly! She also had a guitar tech named 'beef' who was also really cool lol

I'm not sure Grim Reaper qualifies as "hair band" though. I wouldn't call Iron Maiden or Metallica "hair bands" just heavy metal... that I still didn't care for.
It is an acquired taste. The instruments were much different as well as the bow.

Funny that most here are not familiar with “long hair “ music. The classical musicians had long hair traditionally.
Seems you are right. My maternal Grandmother (god rest her soul) would mock my Father because he was into long hair music. Maybe the term isn't really used much anymore.
