Year round I'm a voracious reader, mostly history (post US War of the Rebellion and Irish history)or well chosen biographies. I'm very selective regarding any fiction, it has to light with no underlying messages from the author. I remember reading Moby Dick and and thinking that it was a great sea story. Then a teacher ruined it by trying to dissect it. Fiction for diversion and history for personal edification.
In summer, spring, and fall, meat and it's reaction to wood smoke is a consuming passion. God bless the pig! And the Steer! Not so much the chicken or the sheep.

Quiet. Also painting, drawing, sculpture and photography. Used to enjoy fast motorcycles, but nobody will give me a driver's license.

OK in no particular order:

Astronomy.

Photography - primarily wildlife.

Theology with a focus on Apologetics.

Desert camping (fits in with the astronomy).

Hockey ( L A Kings fan) - used to play roller but too old now :).

Drinking good beer.

Cooking with barbeque and grilling my favorite.

World War II history.

Birding.

Hanging out with family and good friends.

And as of September 17th spending time with my new granddaughter.

The best part is my wife shares most of these hobbies with me. I am truly blessed.

Hmmm... there's an old George Carlin quote about him not having pet peeves but major psychotic hatreds. I like to joke that I have major psychotic obsessions instead of hobbies :). Pipes are the latest one; aside from that, I'm currently into the following:
- Kayak camping (Paddlein, I really dig your blog; I paddle in the Petawawa area)

- Hunting (grouse, snowshoe hare, waterfowl, turkey, deer, moose)

- Fishing (fly fishing, but will happily use spinning tackle as well, and have dabbled in bowfishing)

- Shooting (I have a smallish milsurp collection, shoot the odd multigun match, roll my own ammo and am the secretary/treasurer of my local gun club)

- Karate (Orange belt, Goju-ryu; a fairly traditional style that does twisty-breaky as well as kicky-punchy stuff)

- Running and general fitness (I've recently developed a liking for Spartan Sprints)

- Whisky (single malts and bourbon)

- Cigars

- knives

- Military history

- Chess.

Lot of shooters and kayakers here :).
Let's see if I can manage this picture posting thing...
My wife and I kayaking last year:

A sunset from that trip (we spent three days up the Ottawa river with my wife's nephew and his girlfriend, who's on her university's rowing team. Her middle name could be Evinrude):

A pic from my first 2-gun match last year. The pic looks a lot faster than I was actually moving:
