Or so I read once... the Koreans I know here can really knock it back!
I was just trying to find some information on it. Site full of commercials and other shit. So nothing too informative, with lots of contradictions.
They sure can, but! during a drinking session, shall we say, they take it in turns to sleep, so whilst you're there all of the time, they do a relay.
I remember one time we were out with the yard guys and one guy arrived late. Everyone who was there at the original time of arrival were all doing very nicely. So this guy arrives, making the usual apologies bowing and scraping, when one of his colleagues thrust a bottle of soju into his hand and demanded that he neck it right there and then.
Well of course, this poor guy couldn't say his name, let alone stand, by the time we left the last bar. But in all fairness, he was ready for his work the following day, albeit a touch jaded. ???

This thread makes me wonder how young Korean women rate various nationalities of non-Korean men. Hmmm. My late wife taught at a girl's college and it was remarkable what you could overhear on campus, if judgmental evaluations of the opposite sex are of interest.

Isn't it customary there to go out with the boss and keep up with his drinking on his or her dime?

I’d never heard of Kavalan but a quick search resulted in a number of bottles with a broad range of prices. Do you have any experience with the moderately priced offerings ($100 range) ? If so any advice re what to purchase/avoid?
I still have about half a bottle of their sherry oak cask strength:

This is no longer available but I think is basically the same as their Oloroso Cask but a much higher ABV (58.6% vs 46%).

I'd like to give the 46% a try since the cask strength is fantastic but really strong. It's about $149 locally.

I plan on picking up a bottle of their Classic as soon as it's back in stock.

Thanks for the information. I think I’m going to try to find myself a bottle. It’s always fun to try something new.

Some sample prices in Louisiana where you can walk into gas stations, drug stores and grocery stores to buy booze.

All 750 ml bottles
Maker’s Mark regular $20.99
Maker’s Mark Cask Strength $40.99
Woodford Reserve $27.99
Bulleit Bourbon $21.99
Gentleman Jack $26.99

I haven't bought any of these in five or six years. I've upped my game and usually by craft or small distillery spirits.

Good point, mso489. Most Koreans, in fact all Koreans are extremely conservative. They're not interested in anybody/thing outside of their circle. They don't appreciate brash or over familiar people, until they get to know you. But then, I think they only kind of tolerate it, because you've been allowed into the "circle".
I live just outside of one of the main shipyard towns. Where once upon a time, when things were booming, money was free and easy and the girls were easy too. Providing you spent the cash, and I'm talking hookers here. The courtship ritual was and still is, a slow and steady progression. Times have changed somewhat. There aren't any rough necks throwing money around like it was going out of fashion and the deep-sea ship's crews aren't as well paid as the off-shore industry, ergo, not too much money anymore, not so much courting.
Anyway, back to you thinking. Provided the guy was spending on her, she was swell with it. Regardless as to whether it went anywhere. Don't forget, shipyard town.

Maker's Mark +/-USD60
MM Cask Strength, haven't seen any, but would guarantee it to be 3 x times more expensive.
Woodford Reserve +/-USD130
Bulleit Bourbon +/- USD60
Gentleman Jack haven't seen.

Tough to get here. Happy drinking buddy! ?

Here in central AL, when I find Buffalo Trace in a package store it tends to run about $25-30. Knob creek runs $45ish, Makers Mark is $30-40, and good old Evan Williams is still riding the low shelf at $18 for a liter. We have some good small batches here, but the ABC stores carry them in such small numbers they may as well be sold by lottery. Hell, we actually do hold a drawing for the first 100 people through the door when the limited releases drop. Meanwhile, I’ll stick to my favorite friend, Mr. Jim Beam, for just around $20.

@Honkytonk Man Have you looked into mail order? You may have import taxes or duties, but you might still come out ahead. A couple sites I see (but haven't ordered from):
Master of Malt: Buy Whisky Online | Single Malt Whisky & More
The Whisky Exchange : Buy Whisky and Fine Spirits Online
Romaso,
Thanks for the advise. But we looked into it and its a no go. From what a buddy of mine, who looked into this, he found out that it's illegal to import alcohol into Korea. One needs a liquor licence to buy it from a wholesaler. My wife has a café-bar and she's also limited to what's available and at not any considerably less cost.
Very frustrating.
