Here's a mid to late 1930s KBB Yello Bole in a prince shape.

Oh my gosh! I think the first pipe I bought was in a Prince shape. It was really cheap, and covered in varnish. It had a paper filter (IIRC) which I threw away immediately. There is a metal insert sticking into the bottom of the chamber. Don't know the make, but when I dig it out, I can update.
This thread has made me want a high quality prince. The Dunhill with the silver band would do nicely.....

I didn't know Brigham shape 29 was a Prince, I figured it was an Apple, due to the height of the bowl I thought. I'll admit I'm not very knowledgeable about many shapes. Here's a pic of my 229 (2 dot shape 29).

I have always assumed the Brigham 09 was an apple, the 29 was an author, and it was the Brigham 62 that would be classified as a prince.
The 62 shape:

The 29 shape:

And the 09 shape:

Voilà my humble contribution : . Top is a Dunhill with a nice almost straight grain pattern. Below a Davidoff shell. A petite beauty. http://imageshack.com/a/img673/2521/1aayqZ.jpg

The one that came with the mail two days ago I realize is a diplomat: . I started another thread because I had some issues with the paint with this one.

Moriarty,

Your Dunhill prince, in my opinion, is the nicest I've seen bar none; and I have been looking since this thread began!

There's a convergence (in my several brain cells anyway) between pipe shapes prince, apple, author and diplomat. Especially in some smaller pipes, classification seems in the eye of the beholder, but that's okay. It/they are a great shape and the overlaps only enhance the design. Some pipes labeled apple look entirely princely to me on various sites, just for one example.

I understand that the Prince shape was created by Loewe's in the 1920s for Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII), and that he did not like it. Still, he thought Hitler was wonderful so history tends to judge his tastes poorly. Shame that such a sophisticated and elegant pipe should be named after such an appalling man, who is best forgotten.
The Oom Paul isn't named after the nicest man either - I prefer to call that shape a Hungarian, which I think was its original name.

Agreed. I think these fall into the "Apple Family" of pipes. I think the Tomato and Brandy are on the fringe of the "Apple Family" as well. They're all great shapes and have some overlap of classification that is subjective to the beholder.

Also, I just got my Rattray Dune 46 last week. I like the pipe but hate the 9mm filter. This pipe probably won't last long in my rotation. So, the quest will continue to find 5 princes that I really love and smoke great. The Comoy will probably get dumped. Nice pipe and smokes well, it's just too small for my liking. The jury is still out on the Wessex. I love the pipe but don't like the tight draw. I may try to open it up myself with a drill bit.
