The prince is my favourite shape too, for very much the same reasons as seacaptain - good length and elegant proportions, shallow bowl for a shorter smoke but decent breadth to the chamber. Here is a selection of my favourites.
One of my Dunhill princes (I think the shell finish with silver cap is the perfect prince style):

Chris Askwith (these are in his "weathered bone" finish, the colourful stems make me think of these as summer pipes - first one is regular shape, second is his version with a chubby bowl):

Lovely pipes all! It's a shape that just exudes refinement much like the Duke or Don. One of my favorite shapes, but I own none.
btw: Prince is a personal friend. whenever I visit he requires I bring a purple Askwith Oom Paul fully loaded with Grasmere.

Prince fan here too. In fact I have a nice prince dress Dunhill heading my way as I speak. But what means "dumped them"? Next time send them to me for proper disposal.
Sold them. A couple were expensive lessons unfortunately. In other hobbies I've been involved in, they call it "paying your dues". :)

One thing I'd like to do is get a list together of all the different manufacturer's prince shapes. I'll start off with the ones I know, please feel free to post additions or correct any that I have wrong.
Dunhill - 407 is the current prince with an additional number representing the pipe group size, i.e. 2407, 3407, 4407, etc. Pre-1976 prince shape designation is FE.
Chacom - model 337p a more traditional prince and model 862 a larger prince, almost apple shaped.
Comoy - model 337
Savinelli - model 313 is the smaller version, group 3, and model 315 is group 4. There's also a 315ex, their largest prince shaped pipe.
Wessex - model 612
Lorenzetti - model 29
Luciano - model 92
Rattray - model 39 and 46
Rossi - model 8315, made by Savinelli, same as their model 315
Ashton - as far as I can tell, they don't have model numbers, they just call it a prince.
Peterson - model 408, almost apple proportions
Nording - no model number, it's just called a prince

As mentioned above Brigham shape #29. It usually comes with a prefix relating to pipe grade.
Ie. A four dot prince would be "429".

I've always found the prince shape appealing but have yet to add one to my collection. Maybe, some day, my prince will come.

I have never taken the time to truly appreciate the prince, but wow, they are quite simply beautiful with their sleek lines and the variations of decorations are quite remarkable! I don't own one since I'm a sucker for apples. The Dunhill Shell is simply a masterpiece!! How does it smoke?

My version of the lovely princes above are 9 MM Diplomats, a 30-40 minute smoke; cost ~$50.00, which translates into lesser briars of the same number as $450.00.
Last I saw Scotty Piersel had a lovely blasted Prince with about an 8 inch stem for $275.00. Lovely lovely. ladybriar.com.

Geoffry, the Dunhill shell is a great smoker. I sometimes wonder how much the smoking experience is in the mind. If you really love a pipe the chances are that it will smoke better - maybe because you slow down and take a little more care packing and lighting. Anyway, whatever it is, this one smokes as well as any pipe I have.
Thanks, guys, for the nice comments about the pipes. I'll try to post more often.

Moriarty,

I agree with you that the smoking experience is enhanced when you are attached to a pipe such as your beautiful little prince, and a great smoker to boot!! Can't beat that. Do you mind if I ask how much you paid for that Dunhill? The contrast with the silver is stunning.

Geoffry, the Dunhill prince was from Alpascia and it's a group 4. I don't recall what I paid but Dunhill prices seem to be much lower in Europe than from US retailers and Alpascia is the best place I've found to buy them.
Right now they have a bunch of princes on the site, but none exactly the same as this. For example, there's a 4407 bruyere prince with silver cap for Eur537, a 4407 cumberland prince without the silver cap for Eur319, a 4107 (straight prince) shell briar for Eur299 without silver, and another 4107 with a silver band for Eur356. These are the tax-free prices for buyers outside Europe. The conversion rate at the moment is about 1.1 Euros to the US dollar, so I guess these are about 1/3 cheaper than they sell for in the US. Mine was probably about $450 or so. I'll dig out the order when I get home from work and send you a PM.

Alpascia is one of the very best online pipe retailers. If you sign-up for their weekly updates there is sure to be the one you want sooner or later. They post about half a dozen new Dunhills every week. And doesn't it mean more if you have to hunt a little for the pipe you want, rather than having it handed to you on a plate?

I found this Dunhill 4407 shell with silver cap on Iwan Ries for US$515. The silver cap is also engraved. The shank is a little longer than on mine. Seems to have a nice grain pattern. I wish they had more than one photo of their pipes.
