OK, OK, you guys won me over. I added a tin to my recent order. I'm interested to see how different this is than others I've had given that there seems to be a rash of repackaging the same tobacco blends under different names going on in force lately.

lol and I found out that this is apparently just Dunhill Flake repackaged.
I have the Dunhill Flake on hand so will have to compare side by side.

Note the comments:
I sent a quick message to Mr. Levine to let him know about this thread. Perhaps he can shed some light on things.
and the followup
His response to me (after he read the thread) was that your story was "very close to the actual story". I figured he would be the best source to clarify anything regarding Brigham.

Well, Brian did confirm on here that Klondike Gold is blended by Reiner Will and is "unique". All I know is that I have smoked both and I thought the KG was more complex and flavourful. Now, if the KG is the same as DF then maybe that is just due to the 2 or 3 years of age that Brian indicated is already on the KG. Who knows.

I'll give my 2 cents when it arrives this Thursday! If I can find the thread by then, search on here doesn't work so hot.
I'm excited to try it.

Ok. I know you guys that loaded up your cellar with this don't want to believe that it is exactly the same blend as Dunhill Flake, but it is. Since reading this information, I've compared both side by side and they are exactly the same. So next time you want to save about a buck per tin just bye Dunhill Flake.

@cigrmaster I smoked it fully rubbed out in a large MeerQueen Billiard. I have smoked Black Woods Flake in the same pipe and fully rubbed out and thought that was good. I don't know much at all about cube cutting or folding can someone point me in the right direction.

Don, you can cube the flakes by tearing the strips lengthwise so they are about 1/8th inch or so wide. Then stack them and get a pair of sharp scissors and cut against the grain about 1/8th inch apart so that you have little cubes or squares as the result. Then just gravity feed and tamp lightly. See how that works for you. I don't have a lot of experience with this but others with a lot more can chime in and add more info

Well, all I know is I tried my first tin of DF about two months before I tried the KG. My feeling was meh about the former but I loved the latter. We know that KG is blended by Reiner Will - Brian Levine of Brigham said so on this very forum. I guess the first line of inquiry is to confirm whether Reiner Will blends DF. Anyone know?

get a pair of sharp scissors
I use garden sheers - they work wonderfully and can cut through multiple layers of layered flake strips

I use a Chinese meat cleaver for cube cutting and shaving plugs. People do tend to give me a wide berth if I'm prepping a bowl in the park.... Which is an added bonus.

I imagine they do, especially when you're mumbling incoherently to your imaginary friend "Brian".

I am very infrequently, incoherent.
And I thought you carried that thing just to be left alone Pat

I don't know if Brian wants to comment on this thread. If he does it may slow down the sale of Klondike and increase the sale of Dunhill Flake. Might hurt his pocketbook!

Brian has commented on another thread. He said it was blended by Reiner Will and was a "unique" blend. So far that is the only evidence we have that isn't conjecture or hearsay but is directly from a source within the company. I am keeping an open mind to see if any contrary evidence comes to light. In any event, even if it is the same, it clearly has 2 or 3 years more age on it because it was significantly deeper and tastier than DF - a $1 a tin is worth it for the age along. If they do turn out to be the same blend then call me sold on the whole concept of aging tobacco because the aged KG is much tastier than young DF.

What Peck said, except that at P&C BKG is $8.95 and DNF is $10.35; so it's aged, deeper in flavor AND less expensive. I would like to hear the whole story on this and find out the true deal.
Peck, I am wondering if this conundrum has something to do with the Pat/Brian mystery? Two different tobaccos that may be the same, two different people that may be the same. I am deducing that a positive correlation will be out outcome.

Peck I guess you're right, because the tin of Dunhill Flake that I compared it against was from November 2010.

I thought that just the first batch of Klondike was aged, and that the newer stuff (now that it's been restocked) is not...

fishing, I don't know if the stuff for sale now is aged. Most of mine were bought early on before it caught fire and then was readily available.
