Was anyone else watching this one? I had a feeling it was going to do well.

Thats pretty cool. I went to one of my local shops to have bands put on two of my pipes and the guy had a few packages of the ceramic kaywoodie filters in his drawer. Needless to say they came home with me

I'd guess 30s to mid 40s. Good chance it was WW2 era but some of the others may know better.

I feel as though I may have stole this off ebay. It hasn't arrived yet but this is an ebay image.

I collect Kaywoodies from the 20's, 30's, 40's and sometimes the 50's and the 60's. Once they're cleaned up, they're excellent smokers, and nice looking pipes. I always go for the prime, select, and flame grains, but just picked up a fine line from the 60's. I also collect Yello Boles from the 20's and 30's. I've never been disappointed in either.

Guys, I have a Supergrain 86B apple and the stinger is stuck inside the shank, it unscrewed frim the stem. Any advice on how to loosen that up and make it right?

Put a cotton ball in the bowl and carefully pour some alcohol into the shank and let it sit a bit. Should loosen the stinger. unscrew with a pair of taped pliers. If that doesn't work try a heat gun on the shank. Odds are gunk is built up and binding the stinger.

Plateauguy, the Pipedia article for Yello Bole marks the brand's start year as 1932, but I have been wondering if they began appearing shortly before 1930. Some of the stampings on my Yello Boles do not seem to fit the standard account of the brand's chronology.

Originally it was a high grade pipe made from some of the finest Grecian and Algerian briar obtainable.
Amen to that. I would put at least one of my Drinkless Thorns up against any Dunhill Shell Briar. The Albanian briar that went into the Flame Grains, possibly as late as the early 1950s, also made from some wonderful pipes.

I tried using alcohol inside the stem but it still wouldn't come out. So

I emailed Bill Feuerbach at Kaywoodie who suggested freezing it, that and padded pliers did it.
thanks,
Rob

Recoilrob, I am glad you were able to resolve that problem. The willingness of Mr. Feuerbach to help Kaywoodie owners never ceases to amaze me. Kaywoodie may long ago have descended into "drugstore pipe" status, but Mr. Feuerbach's personal connection to the pipe-smoking community hearkens back to an earlier time.

gambit88, Kaywoodie Reamatics are neat, but I have found them to be pretty limited in terms of the bowls they fit. I will be interested in your experience with that reamer.

I'll post results. I figured it would look nice with my medico reamer. Wonder if there was a yello bole to complete the set...

I do not know about a Yello Bole reamer, but there is a Yello Bole pipe tool. I like the tool, but my Czech tool is better.
