Im sure they will step in with the US market. Im wondering what will happen in the EU.
C&D as well as Glp are uber boutique blends here. Probably about ten blends from each are carried and they come at double the price.

We still have kopp/HU/Dan. It would be nice to see someone step up with a legitimate interest.
Apparently there isnt a single new blend in the pipe tobacco industry since 2016.

Life will go on. I've got my family, health, a living and God! I've got bigger fish to fry. Life goes on, maybe with less choices but there will probably still be plenty of tobacco to buy. We'll just have to adjust a bit. Many smoke just a few different blends and thoroughly enjoy them. We really don't NEED 800 blends to choose from. I'm sure most of us could be happy with a handful of different blends. This has been going on for as long as I've been smoking a pipe. I won't bore you with all the past blends. Sure, it's always a disappointment when a favorite is discontinued but I'll adjust as I have all through my pipe smoking. My "Favorite" tobacco has changed dozens of times with discontinued tobaccos. STG says it's just business, nothing says my business can't go elsewhere. If they don't get the supprot of their "scaled down" version they will have to offer more, or go out of business completly. I'll bet C&D ain't shed one tear😊

I am confused at the latent outrage. This news was relayed to us several months ago. This is just confirmation of what was already confirmed. With all the Sutliff hate and MacBaren Hate that went on here for years, why the sudden occurrence of love. As someone who bought a lot of Sutliff blends and enjoyed them, I conditioned myself to rethink what I'll be getting in the future. Where there is a will, there is a way, and I am confident some new and exciting blends will appear on the market soon enough.
The difference between before and today is that speculation has been replaced by reality and that reality is worse than anyone thought it would be.

The Sutliff hating was based on a misconception that all Sutliff produced was goopers, a misconception born of equal parts ignorance and posing.

Mac Baren always had its detractors, due to its “Macbite”, but it also had its supporters, people who loved ODF.

And some of the reaction is due to a fear of further marginalization.

Nobody loves you until you’re gone.

I'm surprised the HH line is being discontinued. For some reason I always assumed they sold well but maybe not. They did the same thing here in the UK. The entire line was discontinued a little while back.
Yeah - that one surprised me - I thought it would be the one not to be cut. And no Dark Twist?!

I’d love to hear from some of the big B&M’s about their situation after these closures, etc. Country Squire, Boswell’s, and LJ Peretti have great alternatives to these tobaccos so long as they weren’t reliant on Sutliff for their blending materials…
John David Cole (The Country Squire) recently explained some of his plans and strategies on the Pipes Magazine Radio podcast. Sounds like he's got a solid idea.

At least LeonardW made my choice on what STG blends to buy in the future super easy....zero! According to that list they axed every blend I liked from MB and Sutliff except for MB Navy Flake and I'm all stocked up on that. STG doesn't make anything else that excites me, and they make little worth a damn available in bulk aside from 3 or 4 PS blends. Good thing I'm a C&D guy, I'll stick to them and the various blends made by everyone but STG. It may take awhile but rest assured that guys like Ernie Q at WCC will come up with new suppliers and continue to put out spectacular blends we can enjoy. In the meantime just stock up on whatever you like when you can.

Yeah, it doesn't really affect me much, as I've always smoked C&D blends 90% of the time. I like ODF but stopped buying it due to cost. Might somewhat miss match Victorian.

From what I understand, there have been no true “new” blends in the US that aren’t grandfathered recipes. They had to be in the back catalog or in development before the FDA made the decision. So a C&D can get the rights and catalog to say Drucquer & Sons and reproduce those blends. And “small batch” blends that are new are also allowed. But C&D aren’t coming to the rescue anytime soon for a lot of blenders. Just because they don’t have the bandwidth to just start supplying them overnight. Missouri Meerschaum has said it may take a few years before they can bring back blends. SPC will likely have a gap between the Sutliff blends and whatever comes next.
