Hey is this the obituary thread? I always got the MacBite, so I'm not going to miss the MacBaren stuff much but I'm really surprised they're axing all the HH stuff, hell even Dark Twist?

Also surprised to see Capstan Yellow getting canned.

My biggest loss will be Sutliff. Their bulks were just such great go-tos, not to mention all the matches that were sometimes better than the originals. Was this all a ploy to take down Victorian Match? That's my theory!
Agreed. Going to miss Capstan yellow for sure.

That dynamic irked about McClelland, actually. They had many detractors, with ketchup jokes and even memes every week. Then suddenly people couldn't get enough of them when they became unavailable.
I had no idea, I didn't get into pipes until a few years after they'd been gone a few years but from all the YTPC videos I watched from when their stuff was available I got the impression they were near universally loved

Not at all. They had a wide range of blends and there were plenty of critics. They’re mostly remembered for their Virginias. And for good reason. But plenty of their stuff was two thumbs meh. Brian Levine’s BB Acadian Ribbon wasn’t a huge seller. That’s how he was able to accumulate so much of the production run.

Not at all. They got just as much hate as Lakeland blends did at the time.
That doesn't surprise me. I was recently thinking it's funny people hate how the current batch of STG tastes like vinegar but really miss that McC vinegar note. I'm almost tempted to go out and buy a pouch to taste for myself. I've noticed people are a lot nicer to Lakelands lately too and I think it's because they aren't under STG.

My favorite of the HH line has been gone for nearly a decade.
I saw this coming, In the light of this their company decision , all these higher quality tinned blends, most notably HH line are too time consuming and pricey to produce and source, hence discontinuation, yet sales in the EU region for these aforementioned tinned tobaccoes are in decline due to 20-30% higher cost in Comparision to regular pouched Barens blends

Good grief. So the whole “roughly 60%” thing is more like 95% or more, which makes their statement 100% bullshit. Not only are they total corporate dicks, but now they’ve been proven to be liars, as well.

HH ODF and HH Lat are probably my top two blends. I didn’t have nearly enough of anything stocked up, so I panic bought along with so many other folks. I’m probably set for life, as little as I smoke, but I feel really sorry for those who love these discontinued blends and weren’t able to cellar any and now it’s likely too late.

I know change is the only constant, and life goes on, but it still makes me feel a bit sad. I don’t particularly enjoy change and eras ending and all of that stuff. But as others have said, there are plenty of amazing tobaccos out there, and the world will keep spinning. Time to dust off and soldier on.

It's more like 99%, if not literally more

They’re remembered for their Virginias, the Frogs, and their Grand Orientals.
McClelland had an unmistakable house style. If it appealed to you, you became a devout fan. If it didn’t, you didn’t.
Regardless, it was a quality product.
