Like others have said all day; this is a very disappointing business decision by STG. Like many others I was hoping a larger number of tobacco's would be saved; however, that is clearly not the case. Which is very unfortunate for all of us. Though many of us will miss out on stocking up on our favorite blends, there are lots of other great tobaccos out there, so on the bright side, going forward you may find new favorites to enjoy.

For those wondering if their favorite brand/line of tobacco's are made by Sutliff, Mac Baren and/or STG; I went out to a few tobacco websites and noted many of the popular tobacco brands. From there I went out to the different brand websites as well as Tobacco Reviews .com to note who manufactures many of the popular blends on the market currently. The Sutliff and Mac Baren brands are noted in Bold, and the STG brands are noted in Italics. As the STG blends will be a future unknown as STG re-evaluates their tobacco portfolio in the future. If anyone notices an error, please feel free to make a correction.

You are really getting into semantics here. A lot of these revivals are new blends. They may resemble the old in some ways but are not the same. Marketing rules will tell you an old and proven name given to a new product is an enhancment. Just think of how much tobacco companies would pay for the name Marboro...even if the product was significantly different. Nostalga rules the pipe market. If you own the rights to an old name its almost stupid not to use it.

Yeah there's a reason why there's a current blend called Three Nuns even though it's completely different from previous iterations

I hear folks talking about things being sold out. I imagine there will be a lot more before its gone. I think (I dont know for a fact) that these companies arent back ordered on a few boxes of tobacco. Id imagine there is quite a bit sitting and waiting to be shipped. You dont start a machine in a factory to make a few boxes of tobacco. However, if you love it you may need to have a quick trigger finger.

There isnt a blend disppearing I can live without but I know others feel differently. I may grab a few tins of latakia flake if its around but Im not gonna go crazy. I like it but I can do without.

I was able to snatch a couple of pounds of Sutliff Virginia Slices and Match Victorian juuust before it all got sold out at the special vendor that can send stuff to me in EU. Other than that the only MacB/Sutliff blend I stock up on is still in future plans: Capstan.
But with that said, I feel it is time to stock up on my favourite K&K and Dan Tobacco made blends... You never know when STG comes crashing down on those companies and use the corpo sythe on their selection.

Just grow your own folks................ Fuck-em. Don't buy any more factory blends.............. Fuck-em........ Learn............ Process............. Smoke........... Fuck-em................
You'll learn a lot in the process............ Fuck-em............... You'll get satisfaction and a good smoke............. Fuck-em.............. You can do it!............. FUCK-EM!!!!!!

Wouldn't it be cool if NO ONE bought any STG Blends?................. Fuck-Em!.............
Time to get some barrels to make my own perique and a smoking barn to make my own Kentucky and Latakia
Legit I’ve thought about growing oriental and making latakia in eastern Montana, seems a similar climate.

Jeebus... what was even the point of spending tens of millions of dollars to acquire Mac Baren and Sutliff if they were going to discontinue almost everything they sell? I would have thought for sure that Mac Baren's HH line was safe, since they seem to be the most beloved Mac Baren blends in the online pipe smoking world, but apparently they must not sell well among the general public.

I am surprised and weirdly delighted that the current incarnation of Three Nuns and Presbyterian Mixture are sticking around, and St. Bruno was pretty much a given on account of it's OTC popularity in Europe, but losing all those Sutliff blending components is just awful.

I sure hope Cornell & Diehl can come up with something similar to Sutliff 515 RC-1, since with the demise of both McClelland and Sutliff there doesn't seem to be anyone left doing tangy vinegary red Virginias now. C'mon C&D, help us out here!

They will sell millions of dollars in garbage. That is the intended goal. Its a proven sales method. Look at ali express.

Why be as good as we can if you can make more being as bad as possible.

My advice, buy what you can now. Then turn your back on STG and run. They are no longer relevant. They have chosen to serve the lowest common denominator.

I bet their shareholders are happy. It is a good short term investment.

Keep the crap that is easy and filthy cheap to produce. Then sell it at a premium. Meanwhile force out the competition.

Its another step in reducing the landscape to old school drug store blends. Its not as profitable to make a quality product.

I dont think people truly appreciate that it is crazy cheap to produce a low quality tobacco product. Most of the cost is reseller profit and tax. I dont really care that much but its clear that STG has made a choice in what route they intend to pursue. That is why, for most of us here, they are no longer relevant.

Personally, I dont buy much of their product. In the EU their prices are a bit high. HU is cheaper and everytime I have the chance to get tobacco its really no contest.

I’d love to hear from some of the big B&M’s about their situation after these closures, etc. Country Squire, Boswell’s, and LJ Peretti have great alternatives to these tobaccos so long as they weren’t reliant on Sutliff for their blending materials…
As I've posted before in another thread, I've been told multiple times at Boswell's that they are NOT dependent upon Sutliff. They're not worried. They have a buyer who sources leaf independent of Sutliff as well.
