While this is bad news for you lot (Americans) it's not bad news for everyone. I just remembered that i've got 2 tins of limited edition HH Old Dark Fired Plug Cut in the cellar. They've gotta be worth a grand each. Easy! More probably.

I'm off to that Tinbids to make my fortune. That's generational wealth where I come from, lads.

Don’t get me started on ODF plug. The last order I ever did was for a pound of it and custom’s burnt it on my behalf. I decided to call it quits after that.

I’m stoked that st Bruno survived another gauntlet run. I’m convinced it may be the last tobacco ever to remain in production.

I’m mainly sad about M79, EGR and any of the historical blends in the Sutliff’s portfolio. It doesn’t make any difference to me personally, but is just an end of an era.

Geez. End of an era for sure. Me discovering pipe smoking 4 years ago and building a decent cellar:

Doubly so getting a few tins of Brunello Flake, and a couple pounds of Match Ready Rubbed and MB Navy Flake on the way out.

Christ on a cracker, the cigar business is booming, shame to see what's happening here.

EDIT: a couple pounds of Dark Twist incoming. I couldn't resist as once I tamed the bite, I REALLY like that blend. Y'all can have the rest of what's left.

I think down the road Stg will figure out they made a gross miscalculation. They likely expect a decent percentage of users to adapt and smoke that pathetic portfolio of trash. While they can probably afford it I think in the end the MB deal will just go down as a terrible waste of capital that did nothing but shrink the tobacco landscape which they rely on.

@telescopes is probably right. Someone will step in to fill that vacuum. We have no idea as to who or what it will be but business opportunities are typically answered. Granted its a tough biz and a shrinking market but its still a market.

It might not even necessarily be a new company that has to step in... paging G&H + C&D.

In a previous thread, Leonard already implied that he thinks C&D will step in to fill the void left by Sutliff in regards to supplying American brick-and-mortar tobacconists with blending components.

Im sure they will step in with the US market. Im wondering what will happen in the EU.
C&D as well as Glp are uber boutique blends here. Probably about ten blends from each are carried and they come at double the price.

We still have kopp/HU/Dan. It would be nice to see someone step up with a legitimate interest.

I would have thought that at least a few of the non-aromatic bulk blends actually sold enough (over 1,000 lbs. a year) to stick around. Not even ODF made the cut? A bit surprising to say the least but I obviously don't have sales figures in front of me, nor do I know which blends are more labor/machine intensive than others.

Bloodbath is a good word for it. I did not imagine the list of surviving blends would be so small. Truly incredible.
I could have used more Dark Twist, I'm on my last tin. However being in Canada I have limited opportunities to get small amounts of tobacco across the border and decided to focus on stocking up on Mississippi River in its various forms.

Same! Been at this hobby 3 1/2 years. SO SO glad I listened to the advice to “buy now” on this forum.

I did a quick inventory, and I think I’ve got enough for one smoke a day for 30-35 years. Now I’d LOVE to smoke more than once a day, so I’m still panic buying! But knowing I’ll get my after dinner evening smoke every night is comforting.

I often wonder……when my grandfather smoked, (that was the 30s, 40s, 50s) here in the US, before the ability to order on line from anywhere, it seems that there were only a handful of popular tobaccos. Capt. Black, Half n Half, Prince Albert, and a couple of others that were widely available.
Even with a small number of choices pipe smoking was popular.
We still have many, many more choices, even with what is currently happening.
while we may not like a decrease in choices, we are still better off than when he smoked.
everything in perspective.
just my .02 cents

Yeah, unless you lived in place populated enough to have a proper tobacconist you were pretty much limited to whatever was available at the drug store. They didn't care, they just smoked what they had Bloodbath. Was hoping I'd need at least two hands to count the surviving blends on. And maybe Sutliff would sneak a blend or two in that wasn't goop. Oh well. Glad I did some panic buying, but super disappointed in general.
Yeah initially it was announced 60% of blends would be discontinued meaning 40% would remain. This isn't cutting the fat, it's an engineered famine.

Yeah it was initially announced roughly 60% percent of blends would be cut, now it looks like it was literally over 99%
