Mac Baren/Sutliff was so good to Per Jensen that he left there at least six months ago. Not sure if he jumped, or if he was pushed.
He was pushed from MacBaren back in 2021. The collaboration with Sutliff started shortly after that and ended with the end of Sutliff.

In this particular case the whole boycott thing doesn't make sense to me either. The retailers I buy from are not likely to boycott STG, so why should I? Small B&M blenders will surely be disrupted but I don't think they'll be pulling 1Q from their lineup anytime soon either. If one really feels that passionate about the situation, then why stop at just boycotting STG products? Why not boycott the retailers that keep doing business with them as well? It just doesn't make sense to me. If STG were to fail tomorrow many retailers that profit off of their products might end up failing in the end too. Having even less retailers to buy from would make things worse in my opinion. Just my take on a lousy situation.

Agreed. Boycotting STG just seems silly to me. Especially when they have come in and saved blends from being discontinued from the market. (i.e. the Dunhill/Peterson blends). Boycotting STG wouldn't do much to hurt their bottom line, as they're a global industry, but it could potentially cause them to discontinue other blends if they're not selling, and then we lose even more blends from the market.

It seems silly to you because it’s just a dumb assed statement by emotional Suzies who need validation because big tobacco bad.

Shortsighted response. Boycotting STG may or may not send a message to them - better if many pipe enthusiasts did this. Keeping quiet and simply accepting being 'Sutliffed' is like hiding your head in the sand. I'm not one to sit back and take being crapped on. I prefer to do what little I can to return the favor. STG has already done their damage to the piping hobby, so there is not much more to lose if they simply discontinue all their blends. So, why not send at least a symbolic message. I do have some favorites manufactured by STG, but will NOT ever order from them again. I'd much rather find something else from the many options still left.

As for STG - here's couple of definite benefits in boycotting them;
First, it makes one feel damn good - a little get even.
Second, it benefits other viable / smaller pipe/cigar companies that could sure as hell use the support.
Third, it may keep others viable and profitable so as to sustain good suppliers.
Fourth, it may just send a message to the tobacco companies left that they are appreciated and needed.
Just my 2.5c. ;)

If I’m only going to buy C&D/Pease blends why would I then stop buying from SP? That doesn’t make sense. I don’t care if Sykes continues to have STG blends on the site. Thats his choice. Plus those blends are gonna be watered down and nothing like they currently are because STG will use a different leaf supplier and different machinery and different blenders. All you’ll be buying, and all anyone will be selling, is the name.

In Australia foods items like chocolate, lollies (candies) biscuits (cookies) drinks etc often get discontinued. But the public push back and protest demanding their return.
So sometimes a product returns by “Popular Demand” and sometimes the original recipe returns due to popular demand and the label says “Original Recipe”

Take care from TimPiper.

I wonder if its possible for Smoking Pipes to still organise the limited release MacBaren blends like they have been doing in recent years.

I asked the question to a seller (not STG represented company) if they would get any limited releases of Mac Barren in the future. They said no.
But they are not the final say so.

Well yeah, you're probably not who I'm talking about then. You likely don't feel all that passionate about the situation. I'm talking about those who claim to be boycotting STG for the for the greater good of pipe tobacco etc. It just seems to me those claims fall a bit short if they're not willing to go that extra step. My other point is retailers (like SP) could also suffer from an STG failure, so I wouldn't be rooting for that either. From what I get you're just not a fan of them, their product, or more specifically what you fear their product twill become in the near future. I get that.

I'll just keep buying what I like as long as it's available. However, if what I currently like changes to something I don't care for then yup, I won't be buying it either.
