My all time favorite tobacco is the old VaPer Three Nuns.
It's hard to pick a favorite pipe. For sentimental reasons, there's my dad's pipe as well as the first one I bought, which is a 1974 Dr. Grabow Omega. It cost $2.49. I had one dollar. My neighborhood buddy, Dale, was going to mow the family lawn, for which his dad paid him $3. I talked him into letting me mow two dollars worth of the yard so I could buy the Grabow, and had money left over to get a pouch of tobacco, which was Borkum Riff Whiskey.
My best smoker is probably my straight sandblasted pre-transition Barling Exel 249 Fossil T.V.F. black billiard with a silver band and a black ebonite military bit. That also has a lot of sentimental value as it was once owned by one of my best friends (Donald). When he passed away, I inherited his collection of seventy pipes, which includes most of the expensive ones in my collection (Ardors, Rinaldos, Karl Eriks, etc.). I was with him when he bought the Barling, and I said to him, "You know, this is the first pipe you bought that I have a little envy for." Donald said, "Well, if anything ever happens to me, it will be yours." He passed away from pancreatic cancer six years later, and every time I smoke the Barling, I remember that conversation, and miss my old friend.

Wow Jim. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that pipe brings you many years of joy thinking about your friend Donald.

That's a great Grabow story! Grabow pipes are one of my favorites, as I'm smoking one right now. How about a favorite or special tamper?

I bought a Yellow-Bole tool with a tamper, pic, and spoon in a metal sheath for 99 cents right after I bought my first pipe in '74, and I still use it.

Congrats on the milepost, Jim.

I have a similar marker coming up in a few weeks.

It may not seem it by the number of posts with which I'm credited, but some years ago, I had a blog here and was a regular reader and contributor to the fora. I lost track of this board, amongst others, for a few years and they were, logically, deleted. So, when I say I've enjoyed your posts, I really have seen quite a few, and it's been good catching up with you, other regulars, and newer confreres, if lurking for a while.

A very happy anniversary to you, and here's to another quartet of decades enjoying the pleasures of the pipe, and the fellowship which so often follows.

Didimauw: no, I don't have pics of the collection as a whole, but I have photographed many of them. They are not all in the same room. Nor have I photographed the tobacco I have. Most are in boxes, so you wouldn't get much out of that.
MSO: While it's true I am the King in my house, the Queen makes me take the garbage cans to the street every Thursday. And yeah, Kevin has built a great castle.

I'm too lazy to count, and I'm sure it varies from day to day. I'd guess 12 - 14. I couldn't do that if I didn't work at home. I am reminded of when I ran a local comic book shop the '80s and early '90s. I smoked constantly. In nine years, I had maybe two complaints. Didn't stop me though. Recently, I ran in somebody who used to be one of my customers, and he said that he loved the smell of a pipe, and every time he saw somebody smoking one in person or on TV, it brought back good memories of the old comic shop days. He said there was nothing like comics and pipe smoke. Hard to disagree with that. :D
