Congratulations Jim.... If you remember way back when, on another forum, I mentioned you as one of the most Famous Pipe Smokers. Now, I would confirm that more than ever. Move over William Conrad, Fred MacMurray, Mark Twain, Albert Einstein, Lee Van Cleef, et al..there's a new guy in town by the name of Jim Inks!!!

Oh my!!!!
Well, I own one of Conrad's pipes, wear sweaters like McMurray used in My Three Sons, share a birthday (different year, mind you) with Mark Twain, prove that Einstein was smarter than me every day, and can wear a hat like Lee Van Cleef. There is where all resemblances end, man!

Congrats Jim! You have been my taste tester for a while now. Always relied on your reviews to make purchases and you have never let me down...

We have never had a dialogue in my fairly brief time around here, but I can tell you that on my very frequent trips to tobaccoreviews I invariably scroll down to find your take on any given blend. For blends I know well, and ones I am going to try, I find your tasting notes always helpful and accurate even if I do not always agree on the number of stars a blend deserves. Yours is a voice always worth listening to. Long may it continue.

I'm figuring I was born on Krypton!
And you once said I had Kryptonian DNA over saying Bold Kentucky was mild. We're brothers! Congrats on the 43 years, just passed 26 years with the pipe here! :puffy:

Didache: assigning a rating to blends is the most difficult part of reviewing for me, outside of figuring out the toppings in some mixtures. Sometimes, I spend hours, and at times, a day or two to decide what rating to give a blend. There have been times I have gone back and re-rated a blend when I revisited one. I decided early on not to rate for my personal taste, but to rate blends against others in the same genre, e.g., cherry blends against cherry blends, peach against peach, light English against light English, full English against full English, etc. That's the most accurate way I know to do it. It's not fair to rate, say, Dunhill London Blend against Penzance as they were designed for different effect. Hope that helps you understand my ratings.
As for Sablebrush: I do not fry eggs. If I did, you would have never been hatched, Turkey!!! :D Thanks for being my friend and one of the best people I know on the planet.

Hell, I might as well chime in here as well.
I first met Jim, virtually, on another pipe forum. Soon after I learned of the then upcoming annual Triangle Area Pipe Smokers (TAPS) pipe and tobacco expo in Raleigh, NC. We exchanged a few pm's and agreed to meet up.
I brought my youngest son and pipe pal Nick, 20, with me. After arriving I asked around and was pointed to where Jim was sitting. Believe it or not he was sittin out in the smokin area with a pipe hangin outta his mouth talkin with about half a dozen fellow pipe smokers. :) I introduced my son and myself and told him we'd try to visit a little later.
Before the day was out I'd got to know Jim, his wife and I believe his father-in-law. Super folks.
Jim also took time to help me out with stocking my cellar, being as there were many blends I'd yet to try.
Before the day was over we were leaving the expo with 4 or 5 new friends, a dozen tins of tobacco, oh, and a brand new Luciano pipe. (I won the raffle :) )
Jim, I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to share in the knowledge you've selflessly shared with all of us here and fortunate to call you a friend.
Looking forward to another 43 years of those excellent reviews.

Thank you for the kind words, Dino. I certainly enjoyed spending time with you and your son, and I hope to do that again. One correction: my father-in-law was not there. I just sat with old folks so my lies about being 39 were more believable by comparison.

I don't think I'd enjoy smoking a pipe quite as much without the social aspect provided here in the forum and the contributions of our Veterans.

Jim's expertise is a gift he's shared with us here, along with his unabashed enthusiasm for pipe smoking.

Thanks Jim!
