Are you stating the mods and Kevin may opt to lie as oppose to answer a private question truthfully?
Lie! Heaven forbid, no!... Give a polically expediant answer, maybe.

What I know is that I saw Rush Limbaughs name in a post title (to be expected), read some of the comments which were all conciliatory and tame, got up to get a cup of coffee and came back to comment on the post and it was gone. That's all I know, and for all I know in the time I was gone, something derogatory could have been said to have the thread pulled down, but it happened awfully fast.

This is the only online site that I interact with because it's not too stodgy, too liberal, has but one agenda (but allows for some intelligent wiggle room), does not allow mean politics and does not allow for dogmatic religion. But, if it also did not allow for some spirited debate on peripheral, related topics, I doubt very highly remain here. All I wanted to know with this post is where that line was.

I can cross a line in a heartbeat without ever realizing I've done so, and if that line included talking about polarizing personalities and cancer related to smoking, then I wanted to know.....and when I say "know" I mean real world knowing.

I hope my position clearer now? No offence was intended to the mods, the owner of this site or to you.

The great thing about a controversial thread, like the one you referenced is; it will quickly dispel the idea that pipe smokers, as a group, are less bigoted, more tasteful, smarter, and a generally all round great group of level headed, even handed people. Our wee society has the same ratios of ill-tempered, ill-mannered people as any other segment of society.

Older members knew when we saw the header of the dismissed thread that it wouldn't last long. The mods are good and usually very quick when a train wreck occurs.

I have listened to his show since 1991. I have taken breaks here and there but I thought he quit smoking in his 30s. He did an interview (or maybe it was transcript of a call he had with a listener) where he said he quit smoking long before the age of 44 (he used that age because of some study that claimed people who quit smoking before that age have the same odds of getting lung cancer as those who never smoked). Point is: I am not sure Rush smoked cigarettes as long as people think he did. Unless I’m missing something...please correct me if I’m wrong.

I am going to try in my Cajun way since I am not a wordsmith, deleting the prior thread about Rush, chilled me, old forum threads like those were just closed, not deleted like in some communist countries never to have known you exist. I know this is a private enterprise but I am a very small engine and generator of income for this enterprise, without us where would this be. Don’t treat me like a mushroom, respect me, having said that I have nothing but respect for the Mods and Kevin, just my thoughts.

I've been here a few years and seen a few threads disappear. JU

I won't ID them but, antisemitism reared it's ugly head more than once as has racial bigotry if I remember correctly. The sad thing is. some of the violators never realized that their typed words spoke volumes about their fear of their fellow man, which is really what such bigotry is all about.

you would have received the same quality information from a greeter at WalMart.
Also available since '91.

I've seen plenty of silly threads get locked and deleted and haven't shed a tear over any of them. Some are funny and go sort of pear shaped and run the course, some are so outlandish there's no reason to keep them around for posterity sake.

I used to worry about it far more. Slowly I began to realize that everything around me is toxic. Nearly every day, when I check the weather, there's an air quality warning because Philly is so polluted. My tap water is undrinkable without filtering it, and even then it's still gross. The food I eat is filled with preservatives, dyes, antibiotics, growth hormones, etc. I wash every day with soap & shampoo that's nothing but a soup of unpronounceable chemicals. I drive 60 miles a day on a highway filled with distracted maniacs. I sit, sedentary, in front of a computer for 8-10 hours a day, in an office building filled with stagnant air contaminated by off-gassing carpeting, paint, insulation, plastics, etc. I constantly see people, including close friends, family and people like Matches, who die young and unexpectedly.
So really, what's the difference in smoking a couple bowls/cigars a week? It's a drop in the toxic bucket. As Jim Morrison said, "I'm gonna get my kicks before the whole shit house goes up in flames."

not sure about the cancer. but the death is certain for all of us. why bother worrying about it? it's just a question of when.
Indeed. People should be worrying more about abandoning real vices (pride, unforgiveness, envy, greed, and in particular, lust) and practicing virtue than about dying.

That being said and thoroughly believed, the issue with health anxiety is sometimes not so much about death, but about how much dying is gonna hurt, or illness in general. There are illnesses that won't kill you, or won't kill you right away, but they can still make your life utterly miserable and/or leave you partially or permanently disabled. And not everyone has or can afford disability insurance. So there's that to ponder too.

At length, and as has been pointed out many times, it's an issue of moderation. If one's drinking and smoking in moderation one is fine; if one is overindulging, well then there's one vice that needs to be dropped like a hot coal: gluttony! Neither strong drink nor tobacco are vices.

My first reaction is you should really get out of that town.
My second reaction is much worse, there are solutions to every one of your pollution concerns, not that you as an individual can implement all of them but if the majority of people would actually decide to make it a priority then it wouldn't take long to fix most of those problems.
I hate fear mongering but in far too many ways modern civilization really is the frog in the boiling pot.

Just wondering, when Rush Dies and someone does a RIP thread, will it go the way of the dinosaur after the first 5 post? Or can we keep it civil?

There was someone famous that died recently that I didn’t care for. I’m trying to think of who it was; the name escapes me. Their politics didn’t agree with me, so I didn’t post. Better to not say anything, in respect to their memory and those who admired them, than say something mean and hateful; looking like a complete ass while doing so.

As far as cancer, Rush is a Cigar smoker, he may have smoked cigarettes, he knows the risk. He could’ve never smoked a day in his life and still gotten lung cancer. We’re all going out one way or another.

Rush Limbaugh is a racist xenophobic scumbag. Ignoring that isnt civility, its collaboration.

Some typical Rush ravings:

He deserves neither civility or remembrance and the world will be a better place without him.
