I must confess, I don’t normally clean them until Sunday and then I give them a good going over, whether they’ve been smoked or not that week.

With cleaning I mean just using pipe cleaners. I find that if you wait too long, the dirt has settled in the pipe and cleaning it will be more difficult. If you do it immediately after smoking, the built-up is easier to remove because it hasn’t hardened yet (if that makes sense…).

I prefer to store the pipes with the stems up. I inherited a pipe rack of my grandfather that stores them both ways. I use the two positions for storing pipes stem down for a couple of my cob pipes.
If a pipe is properly dried before storing, you can store it however you choose.
