If I were told that I could collect $100,000.00 by creating a Facebook account, I would, but I'd do it for no less. The very idea of posting personal information where legions of anonymous "friends" can see it, and I suppose their "friends," is repulsive in the extreme. People disrespect each other all the time, and feelings get hurt. I tell my friends who are on FB that they should get off or keep their dissatisfaction to themselves. What a crock of horseshit!

The business arrangements any one has is pretty much none of our business. And Greg may be under non-disclosure agreements with his blenders. I'll fall out of my chair if he puts that info out here or anywhere public. Love to know, though.

What ever. He sure didn't care to chime in in the earlier days.
What's happened?

The pipe and tobacco illuminari have an an informal agree meant about forums, "We do not." They find the atmosphere intolerably bracing and are accosted by all manner of ruffians who have no respect for their elders. On a different forum Pease was posting and some guy waded in, saying, "I hate experts!" was had been posting to that forum, and just like that, he was gone. A big name pipe guy told me that the level of thought and writing on forums was atrocious.

Yeah, that's what I've been told as well. The so called "names" do look at the various forums, and some do participate to a varying degree. And others don't participate because of infantile behavior like the "I hate Experts" guy. It's not that it happens a lot, just enough to discourage participation. Pros have better things to do than to suffer fools.
At their best, these forums offer a place for amateurs, in the truest sense of the word, to share their love of a good pipe and good tobacco. Nothing wrong with that.

+1 on Saltedplug,

And we don't tend to keep pipemakers long, because of cob guys constantly assaulting them with "cobs are better" posts out of nowhere, or just the same idiots that post that they hate experts. I know that Walt, Ryan, and a few other pipe makers used to grace the pages more often also.
We go through waves of ego-driven chest thumpers. But, sometimes one or two guys can posts multiple times in a thread and give the perception that there are more idiots posting than there really are. Ultimately, I think that the majority of people posting are quite respectful and courteous. But, it doesn't take but a handful of morons and assholes to spoil a party.

Damn "cobbers!"
People are people no matter what the trade. If a guy or gal can't take criticism about their profession (or anyone else for that matter) then yeah, they should find places that better suit them.
I'm a retired chiropractor. You have to be pretty thick-skinned to take all the shit people dish out regarding us "quacks."

We get disrespected, laughed at, shunned and scoffed at by most of the medical professionals and the lay people, labeled wannbe MD's and snake oil salesmen. Respect ? forgettaboutit.
You can either roll with the punches, fight them or ignore them. In my early days, I fought...it got me nowhere but aggravated. Later I learned to smile and roll with it. ;)

In his defense, I have seen Greg take on in posts some real idiots, posting that he obviously uses humectants if he can pop a tin and come back to it a year latter and it still be moist. But, was able to turn the post into a positive about his choice of lids that he uses specifically for his blends. And, many times I have seen him turn posts around like that. I think that Greg and Walt and such do have thick skin, but sometimes participating amongst all of the misconceptions and BS that is passed around as fact, it starts to become like walking a gauntlet of hundreds of executioners flogging you daily with wet noodles. They don't hurt, but after a while it becomes stupid.

Wasn't it 2 years ago that Greg did a month long series where we tried a different blend each week and discussed it. I really enjoyed the interaction and it exposed me to blends I probably wouldn't have tried on my own. Ah the good old days.....

Yeh, I am picturing guys in straw hats and flip-flops with torches made of cornstalks running through the briar patches, setting them on fire like Che rebels in the pineapple fields.
Cosmic, I find you very quotable today ha ha.

My GL Pease smoking experience consists of one Stonehenge flake, which was okay and one bowl of very old Jackknife Plug, which was awesome.
I should get out more...

It wasn't about criticism that some of the top guys stay away from, it was boorishness and stupidity.
