As I understand it there are two schools of thought when it comes to Lakelands. One is that a tobacco from the Lakeland district is a Lakeland and the other is that a tobacco that smells like your grandmothers brassiere is a Lakeland.

Tempted by the allure of Lakelands ? I'm planning on picking up som SG 1792, Grousmoore and Lakeland Dark in the future but due to avaliability I have just orderd som Erinmore Flake to start with. Does Erinmore have lakeland flavouring? If not how is it?

Thanks!

It is unusual in that it has a weird tin smell, and taste-wise, the taste is nothing like that smell. But, it is not even remotely close to a Lakeland. Lakelands use perfume industry ingredients to scent their tobaccos. Erinmore is just unusual and unique. I love it. But, I can also tolerate some Lakelands.

Thanks everybody! Love the knowledge and friendly attitude here.
I guess I managed to confuse erinmore and ennerdale. Anyhow gonna enjoy trying erinmore when it arrives even if it's not a Lakeland :)

For what it's worth, I reserve the term Lakeland for scented tobaccos from Sam Gawith and Gawith Hoggarth, the Lake District companies. While I may refer to other tobaccos as Lakeland-like for having floral toppings, I don't consider Erinmore Lakeland-like (delicious though it may be).

Confusions like this is how you end up ghosting your favorite Virginia pipe. puffy

Yeah, I guess so... so wait... erinmore goes in the Va pipes? I thought it should go in the aro pipes, so far I have pipes for latiakas, for aros and for unflavoured Va and VaPers, better tell the wife I need to buy another set of pipes for flavored straight Virginias... I'm using you as reference Cosmic if she has any questions ?

it's kind of an aro but it's more a very strong hint then a full on flavor. You can taste not just what tobacco components it has but their quality as well. And it's very Va.

I don't find that Erinmore leaves anything behind like a traditional aromatic. In fact, if you smoke it in a pipe that has had aromatics smoked in it, like a vanilla or a fruit flavoring, you won't be able to taste Erinmore at all.

now I just smoked a Lakeland Erinmore but it was 60% Erinmore and 40% Bosun Cut Plug. ;)

Erinmore has very little topping. Those who call it "fruity" are I think tasting some of the VA. It does have fruit casing but not much IMO.

For Lakeland blends, I like GH Rich Dark Honeydew, maybe even more than GH Bob’s Chocolate Flake.
Can you ask the mods to delete your post? RDH has suddenly assumed near unicorn status. Last drop, my two most reliable sources for GH got none. I had to beg a seller who normally breaks down to sell by ounces to sell me a whole 500g bag. You really aren’t doing anybody who likes the blend any favors.

In fact, given the present supply issues, any discussion of GH tobacco should be banned. As a fan of 35 years, I can say with complete confidence that most of you won’t like them. Bob’s Chocolate is particularly foul to the uninitiated. I have jars and Mylar bags of GH and SG stashed all over the house (but, alas, only about a pound and a half of RDH)and the EPA has declared it a Superfund clean up site.
?

Seriously, I never thought I would live long enough to see this. I am reminded of 1992. I picked up a copy of the very first issue of Cigar Afficianado at LAX on my way back to Florida where I then lived. That issue ranted and raved about how good made in Miami La Gloria Cubanas were. I had less than a box of Charlemagne’s and a box plus of Wavell’s. It was damn near six months before I could get another full box. At twice the price. I kind of got a hoot, though, out of being ahead of the curve back then. But not now. Definitely not now.

an absolute truth, and when bowl progresses then those topping dissipates quite significantly and then burleys come forth providing backbone and strength to this magnificent blend, not long ago I had me a sample of 40year old Murrays era Erinmore flake and what I can say that one had quite much more topped, yet bolder and there was this quite perceptible floral-like side note present
