BB makes some stout loads for all calibers and command a hefty price tag. I've used some of it in 357 Magnum and it'll knock the ears off a brass mule. I enjoyed those old BP pistols and still have a couple 2-3 left. It wasn't fun taking them apart each time to get the fouling out but if you didn't, rust city.

I always use hot soapy water and then dry the metal parts in the oven! That's really the best way for BP guns. You can practically watch the durn things rust if you don't clean 'em!

That's the way I cleaned them. I took the nipples off, grips, bolt/trigger spring, trigger, cylinder, hand, etc. Down to all parts as BP gets all in the crevices. I've seen nipples frozen from rust because guys didn't take them out and lean them. I'd run a wet, soapy pipe cleaner down the nipple as well as using a toothbrush on the outside and threads. THEN you get to oil it and piece it all back together...a real hassle, I thought.

Just got done putting Dawson Precision fiber optic sights on my Springfield RO.

0211-600x450.jpg

Next steps are Ed Brown snakeskin mainspring housing with magwell, Dawson Precision guide rod, GVT G10 Grips (Black & Gray), and probably new hammer and a new trigger assembly. Then I will be sending it off to get the front strap checkered with snakeskin, flush cut and reverse crown on barrel, and either Ion bond or Cerakote for refinish. I have also been tossing around the idea of bob-tailing it, but leaning against that.

Grizz-You may like that bobtail job. I love it on the factory standard S&W 1911SC...feels great.

BTW-I've never seen a guide rod like that one.

My Springfield MilSpec 1911 has never jammed and stays on target just like it is, so I'm not changing anything! Hardballs or Speer GDHP feed just fine and that's all I intend to use in it. For everything else, there's a rifle!

After I finish building this gun up I am thinking of starting on a commander size, and I'm thinking of saving the bobtail for that. I have never seen a guide rod like that one either until I ordered my sights from them; thought I would give it a try.
Nice looking piece!

baron-you ought to try some el cheapo 200 gr LSWC's. They shoot like driving tacks with a good load like 5.5 gr of 231. I make my own with wheel weights and a great 2 cavity mold. It's a lot cheaper than GDHP's for sure.

I got this Super Redhawk in 1991 from a fellow servicemember who was shipping out to Korea and couldn't take it with him. Back in those days the .44 Mag was the king of the hill. Still a heavy hitter even though not the biggest any more.
I paid fair price for the weapon back then but also included in the deal was the reloading dies and about 300 rounds of brass. Shot thousands of rounds through it. Most are target rounds like 4.5 grains of bullseye under a 240 gr wadcutter. Hot loads are H110 cant remember charge off the top of head.
The real good time has been introducing my son to the shooting sports. He is a natural just like his dad and grandpa. And even his great granddad was a shooter. He learned the basics with air-soft guns and we still have a blast shooting together in the backyard at an aluminum cake pan. With the air soft 6mm BBs you can hear the hits!

Wyatt shoots Rimfire bolt action rifle and pistol both semi-auto and revolvers.

@bentmike That is awesome; I can't wait to take my son shooting for the first. He is three now so I have a couple years yet.

That's a great way to start them off young and how to love and respect the sport. Moreover, it builds a bond that will last throughout his lifetime as well as yours.
I've only had a few 44 Mag's and the first was a M29 in 4". Next was a SBH and then the M29-3 in 6". That's the only one I have left and a super accurate pistol with any load with my favorite being 10.5 gr of HS-6 with a 260 gr lead flat nose bullet. It's more accurate than the famous Keith bullet, the 429421 (245 gr). This is the 260 gr I cast that is so accurate.

-Well said colcolt! That's a great looking double cavity mold. What kind is it?
@grizzly -You will love teaching your boy. In this day and age we've got a greater duty than ever to teach the next generation safe and responsible firearms use. And then all the fun a dad and his son can have on an afternoon shoot is icing on the cake.

Running the Nine Hole drill on a VTAC barricade at an excellent training clinic a couple of weeks ago.
RobertAR15.jpg

This is a devilish little drill invented by Kyle Lamb. Our target was a steel form at 100 yds. Ring the target, move to a new hole.
Here's a video of drill being explained by the creator.

Here's a video of some guy running it in 20 seconds. I take considerably longer.

It's a brass mold from Accurate Molds. Tom makes some superb molds. I have several from him. It's called the 43-260B. i can imagine it would do real good in a rifle and in fact, it would be my choice.

It's a "purdy" thing for sure. Here's another he made for me for the 45 ACP. They're for 200 gr SWC's.

BTW-This is a group with the 44 Mag using that 260 gr bullet.

8O Wow colcolt! I see you've got that .44 dialed in.
Those molds are awesome! I've got a couple Lyman molds but I noticed right away that those molds of yours just look of the highest quality.
Sweet Anaconda gwtwdbss. That thing has got to be rock steady firing the .45 colt.

Thanks Mike. It's the smoothest revolver I have ever owned. My 21 year old daughter is in the service and always wanted one. I got it to pass down to her. I'll probably pass it on to her in a few years once she gets settled down and has a home and family of her own.
