Something about the stamping and the size and color of the spot on these made me think they were remakes or something.
This was my exact thought!!

Looks like the size and depth of blue from the later Claret and "Five Dot" pipes in the 70s or 80s. And the case isn't pre war either.

I had only taken a cursory glance and didn’t even look closely at the logo when I figured I wouldn’t even be in the running. I was unaware that one dots were made after 1939.
Yeah, circa 1978 tribute pipes, but most say specially selected while these say straight grain, so they are a little more scarce than the others.I believe they made them in the 80’s. They had several iterations of reissue. Plus they made them for the European market too
I was watching this one and thinking of your pipe. I agree, it looked smoked. I also like yours better.I'm not going to lie, I made a play for this. But I'd be willing to bet a chunk it IS smoked, it absolutely has fills, and it looks like someone buffed the heck out of the gold. I hope someone enjoys this, but I am super happy with mine... that I got a better deal on. Woot!

GBD UNSMOKED MILLENNIUM UNIQUE PIPE W/ .750 GOLD BAND & CASE - PIPESTUD | eBay
Not only is this very large pipe skillfully made and very nice grain around the bowl, it also shows off a. 750 (18-karat) gold band with the GBD logo. And this beauty also has the inlay GBD brass logo on the left side of the stem.www.ebay.com
Thank you, brother. I do not have a ton of disposable income, so making good choices on pipes is important.I was watching this one and thinking of your pipe. I agree, it looked smoked. I also like yours better.
It does, but it also looks a lot more like a GBD Unique than mine does. I can see the Unique model in this pipe pretty clearly. This GBD looks a lot like a Charatan.
I don't like it - to me the design is weird. I agree that it looks smoked - looks like bad reaming at the top. But I don't see the fills.I'm not going to lie, I made a play for this. If you do the zoom in on picture #3, it looks like there are several small fills. I could be wrong, but it looks like it to me.I don't like it - to me the design is weird. I agree that it looks smoked - looks like bad reaming at the top. But I don't see the fills.
Glad you got the one you wanted!

I've never seen a Blue Riband box. It's the right box for the shape number too.I don't see many Blue Ribands, and can't recall any unsmoked (in recent years).

1950's Comoy's Blue Riband: Unsmoked with Box | eBay
The pipe's straight grain briar is superb, and is enhanced by Comoy's proprietary staining process. Comoy's catalogs of the era lists the shape 203 as a Cutty, but this pipe's bowl has very minimal forward rake.www.ebay.com

I don't think there are any more. I just checked Pipepedia, nope. I thought perhaps in a catalog, but I can only find in my files a 1975 catalog which doesn't even list the Blue Riband. Thanks! Is the list of grades available somewhere?
I think you're right. I just checked some higher-end Petes that I just finished restoring, and I'm spotting little fill areas - and these are from the 90's.If you do the zoom in on picture #3, it looks like there are several small fills. I could be wrong, but it looks like it to me.
